About The Job
We are a fast-growing startup with an ever-increasing backlog of orders and are looking for Director of Finance As the first full-time hire in this role at Trexo Robotics, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the not only the financial strategy and driving sustainable growth. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, cashflow, forecasting, financial reporting, and strategic planning.
We’re also open to Senior Financial Controller or Manager level candidates. This position is hybrid (3 days in the office in Mississauga).
About You
You want to work in a small team solving a big problem. You are excited by the prospect of revolutionizing multiple industries. You can juggle many tasks simultaneously. You are detail-oriented and love asking why many times till you understand something from first principles.
What You'll Do:

  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the company's international growth objectives.
  • Lead financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Lead treasury management activities, including cash flow management, risk mitigation, and optimization of working capital, considering the capital-intensive nature of medical device manufacturing.
  • You will work alongside various teams, including Engineering, RA/QA, Supply Chain, and Production on cost optimization strategies.
  • Oversee the financial aspects of the SR&ED tax incentive program, ensuring adherence to regulations and maximizing tax credits.
  • Supervise an outsourced accounting firm and manage financial initiatives, including tax compliance (in Canada and the USA), 409a valuations, and stock options plans.
  • Oversee financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements, including those specific to medical device manufacturing.
  • Oversee payroll, establish internal financial policies, and manage expenses to align with budgets.
  • Mentor and develop finance team members to support their professional growth.
  • Act as the primary contact for legal matters and liaise with taxation authorities in Canada (CRA) and the USA (IRS).
Required Skills:
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, including experience at growing startup or small manufacturing company.
  • Experience in the healthcare, medical device, or similar hardware product industries.
  • Proven experience managing cash flow in a manufacturing environment.
  • Background in developing inventory budgets and forecasts.
  • Track record of driving financial performance and managing complex financial operations.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in strategic planning, financial modelling, and analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detailed oriented, but also strategic mindset.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience in a high-growth startup environment or technology industry.
  • Managing a hardware leasing business.
  • CPA or CFA qualification.
  • Previous experience in raising equity and debt to investment bankers, VCs, and strategic partners.
