Wood’s Homes is searching for one (1) full-time Family Support Counsellor I to join our Family Connections Program.

Our Family Connections Program provides culturally sensitive support services to high-needs families in their home and/or a community setting. The program works with youth, their families, and Child Intervention Services to manage child protection concerns.

Role Summary:

Reporting to the Team Leader and Program Manager, the Family Support Counsellor 1 is responsible for the delivery of family support services to the children and families in the care of Wood’s Homes.Families are directly referred to the program by Children and Family Services for the supports that are pertinent to family safety, reunification and maintenance of connection for children in care. Family support services include supervised visitation, parenting education and in home support as well as school liaison and community co-ordination as needed. Family Support Workers can be attached to educational, residential or community-based services and this determination is governed by the individual family needs and referral from Children and Family Services. The Family Support Counsellor will demonstrate due diligence in being exceptional in the delivery of high-quality services and in meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety Management System at Wood’s Homes.

Responsibilities:

  • Completes program related assessment process and jointly establishes goals and areas of focus with families and Child Intervention Practitioners.
  • Manages and balances a caseload, reporting and filing system.
  • Advocates for the family and in that role supports the development of a network of resources with the family, community and other involved professionals while teaching the families how to advocate for themselves.
  • Participates in weekly supervision, case reviews, clinical case consultation, and team meetings in order to ensure the delivery of effective Family Support services.
  • Reports workplace hazards, unsafe or unhealthy conditions, or incidents (including near misses, injuries, or equipment damage) to their direct supervisor and participates in building program safety controls.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Degree required in one of the Human Sciences, Childcare, or a related field.
  • Minimum two (2) to four (4) years’ experience working with infants, children and/or adolescents, and families.
  • Family and in-home support experience preferred.
  • Case Management experience is preferred.
  • Personal suitability.
