What you’ll do

It’s safe to say, there’s no shortage of variety in what we do. Here are some key accountabilities of the role:

  • This position is accountable implementing TJX Canada’s product development strategy for seasonal trend and general products, combining market knowledge and experience in home merchandise to drive business objectives to improve quality of imports, production and close outs for merchants.
  • Design seasonal trends and general products, developing related sourcing packs that aligns with off price model and merchant objectives
  • Researches, analyzes and provides input on market trends for style, color and fabric selection process for private label brand strategy; attends domestic and international trade shows, competitive shops to keep abreast of product trends and industry best practices
  • Monitors in store product to identify additional opportunities for process improvement and quality standards; ensures government safety and labeling requirements are met
  • Accountable for updating product specification guide outlining acceptable quality levels, problem purchases, subsequent resolutions for merchant team to use; establishes system to inspect samples, address quality control issues with vendors
  • Responsible for monitoring critical path milestones with merchants and vendors to ensure all product deadlines are met including delivery and production flow; reviews work in progress reporting, identifying opportunities and risks to Product Development leadership and vendors/agents
  • Trains new merchants on product development processes and procedures and how supports off-price buying model
  • Participates in competitive shop planning and sample display presentations; leverages information from process to support research on trends and requirements

What you’ll need

To begin your career with us, we require the following:

  • Post-secondary degree in related field or the equivalent in job experience
  • Experience in Retail Merchandising, preferably with experience in off-price retail and product concept and development experience
  • Strong sense of fashion and color sense in home trends and product design
  • Advanced computer skills in Adobe Creative Suite CC – Bridge, Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Highly advanced understanding of product design, design principles and best-practices; high level of aesthetics vision with an excellent design sense with experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills ability to read, write, communicate and interpret information accurately
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to implement and manage details, prioritize, time manage and multi-task with limited supervision and sometimes under time pressure - ability to deliver high quality designs in very short turn-around times.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including developing and building relationships with internal and external partners / team members

Hourly Rate: $26.30/hr*

*This represents the expected pay rate. Starting rates may vary depending on various factors.
