The Department Manager, Produce is accountable for thesuccessful day-to-day operation of the produce department. Thisincludes the implementation of company standards, the management ofcompany assets, attention to maintaining a local competitive position,and the development and training of staff. The incumbent supports therest of the store management team and fosters positive customerrelationships.

*YourResponsibilities*
*Provide excellent customer service bydelivering on the Value Offer.*

Deal with customercomplaints and requests quickly and effectively

* Addressand respond to all customer inquiries

* Schedule staff to maximizecustomer service and fulfill business needs*Manage the ProduceDepartment to maximize sales and profits.*
* Ensure that theProduce Departments is ready for business, stocked and maintainedthrough out the day.
* Ensure that product is ordered accordingto planned timelines and criteria
* Fully support and participatein all advertising campaigns and P.O.P strategies as directed throughProcurement and Marketing
* Ensure that seasonal and promotionalmerchandising is planned and executed to maximize sales, profits andcreate customer excitement
* Ensure produce displays are permarketing directions
* Complete business segment inventories asrequired
* Monitor gross profit; investigate and rectifyvariances
* Monitor and control inventory levels by orderingproduct weekly; minimize over/under stocks, maximize in-stocks todevelop sales, inventory turns and return on investment
* Monitorinventory levels and shrink reduction; rotate stock to guaranteefreshness

*Ensure that the daily operating disciplines, asdescribed in the Produce Manual are consistently met.*

*Adhere to the department cleaning schedule and to all approvedcleaning/ sanitation techniques.
* Responsible for crisping,trimming, wrapping and displaying produce in merchandise cases and onproduce tables.
* Ensure that product preparation areas,merchandise cases, tables and equipment are clean, safe andsanitary.
* Ensure that product is correctly received, inspected,cleaned, dated, priced, stored and rotated upon receipt (FIFO)
*Ensure that product is packaged according to company standards
*Maintain equipment as directed by the manufacturer and FacilityMaintenance.
* Ensure equipment is calibrated and workingproperly.
* Maintain 52 week file and records

*Support, train and develop staff so that staff provides outstandingcustomer service, and are familiar with the correct handling andpreparation of products.*

* Through on-going communicationkeep staff abreast of key activities
* Manage staff schedules inorder to meet customer and business needs
* Supervise, coach anddevelop employees
* Work with supervisors to recruit, train, leadand develop produce employees

*Skills andQualifications*
We’re looking for professional, organized workerswho have a healthy sense of adventure and a strong knowledge andexperience base.

* A minimum of two years of experience ina high-volume grocery/retail environment
* Strong customerservice skills.
* Record of bottom line and sales results inprevious roles.
* Ability to interpret a variety of instructionsboth verbally and orally.
* Computer knowledge of Excel andOutlook.
* Strong knowledge of grocery operating principles.
* Exceptional analytical, problem solving and decision making skillswith a high attention to detail
* Proven organizational, planningand prioritizing skills
* Excellent written and verbalcommunication, interpersonal skills and superior customer serviceskills
* Must have the ability and desire to develop an in-depthunderstanding of Northern/NorthMart customers
* Demonstrates apersonal and enthusiastic commitment to Northern/NorthMart's vision,mission, values and strategies
* Highly motivated and adventurouswith an appreciation for small town life in a culturally diversesetting considered an asset
