Job Description

The Executive Regional Director, Western Region provides strategic and direct leadership for Northlands College. The Executive Regional Director reports directly to the President & CEO and leads the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies for engagement and program development across Northwestern Saskatchewan. As a community-focused leader, the Executive Regional Director develops relationships and partnerships with individuals and organizations to bring College programming to under-served communities in northwest Saskatchewan. Also included in the position is the overall operation of the Buffalo Narrows campus, including engagement and campus services.

The Executive Regional Director owns a broad portfolio of the Health and Wellness, Flexible Learning academic areas for the western region and Trades and Technology programming for both the western and central areas of northern Saskatchewan. The Executive Regional Director is a member of the college’s executive leadership team and plays a pivotal role in the transformation of Northlands College.

This role has both externally and internally facing responsibilities as a thought-partner, strategist and operator within the organization.

The Executive Regional Director is supported by the Manager, Mining Programs and three Senior Training and Engagement Coordinators as well as other staff on the Buffalo Narrows campus. The Executive Regional Director is involved in ongoing collaboration with the Director, Engagement and Communication Services in the leadership and oversight to non-academic aspects related to the lives of learners and potential learners including, the learner experience and learner financial assistance. They will also collaborate on the development and implementation of goals, strategies, and plans to execute comprehensive marketing campaigns for Northlands College.

Key Leadership Accountabilities

LEADERSHIP

  • Develops, leads, implements, manages, promotes, delivers, and evaluates a program plan for programs based on a needs identification process involving extensive community and stakeholder consultation.
  • Collaborates with the executive management team in the development of strategic and operational plans.
  • Procures and manages financial resources required to implement the college’s programing.
  • Ensures that faculty, staff, and learners across all campuses continue to strive for success and be prepared to change how Northlands College offers programs.

STRATEGIC ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT

  • Supports the College Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Strategy and leads implementation and operations of the strategy.
  • Collaborates with Learner Services on learner retention and recruitment.

PEOPLE/HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

  • Ensures the efficient operation of the region including the design, establishment, and maintenance of an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the region’s goals and objectives.
  • Facilitates the recruitment, hiring, supervision, evaluation, professional development, discipline, and discharge of staff.
  • Engages with the regional team in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires and maximizes personal and professional potential.This includes guiding, coaching, and mentoring faculty and staff to achieve their goals and objectives.

BUDGET AND OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

  • Assumes overall accountability for the financial health of the programming in the region and the Buffalo Narrows campus.
  • Develops and administers the budget for the region.
  • Participates, as a member of the Executive Management Team, in the development of the College’s annual budget.
  • Maintains a current awareness of best practices for post-secondary education programming.

The Executive Regional Director, Western Region, is a critical position within Northlands College and requires strong leadership and communication skills. This individual’s background will be supported by a master’s degree in any discipline that is aligned with programs offered at Northlands College. The ideal candidate will be a consummate team player and have demonstrated experience in leading and managing high performing teams. They will have a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience as an educational administrator with a solid understanding of working with equity groups and a representative workforce and demonstrated understanding of cultural diversity in the workplace and achieving a respectful work environment.

The next Executive Regional Director, Western Region will have demonstrated experience with guiding strategies and improving processes, coupled with experience in deploying resources to support individual units as well as region-wide initiatives. The ideal candidate will also bring an exceptional ability to forge effective relationships, influence and collaborate internally and externally at all levels. The College is searching for that person with the ability to balance between commitments made and resources available.
