Job Description

Product Engineer (Resident)

The McLaren Resident Product Engineer will be responsible for the providing product engineering technical support at the manufacturing location during serial development, launch and on-going product development phases.  Resident Engineers work closely with the various Guelph plants and are responsible to assure that product designs and manufacturing processes are compatible to achieve product function and quality specifications. This role will act as a liaison between the Livonia engineering technical team and the manufacturing location to assess non-conformances, quality and warranty issues, drive VA/VE, engineering change management and support manufacturing process development.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience.
  • Experience in design, development, and validation of driveline components such as axles, PTU’s or similar geared products or components is preferred.
  • Familiar with GD&T, dimensional tolerancing and dimensional stacks
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to grasp technical concepts quickly.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and requirements for component design
  • Ability to prioritize and work multiple tasks to completion.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with DVP&R, DFMEA, PFMEA and Control Plans,
  • MS Office proficient

  • Experience writing technical specifications, validation test procedures and test reports.

Key Accountabilities:

·       Support the transition from the product development phase to the product launch phase and facilitate hand off to the production team.

·       Translate engineering functional requirements into manufacturing process requirements.

·       Support the manufacturing organization in preparing cost estimates for design changes.

·       Support manufacturing process development to ensure functional engineering requirements are met.

·       Support DFMEA and PFMEA activities with Linamar manufacturing plants and suppliers to assure manufacturing feasibility of designs.

·       Support change management activities such as creating and tracking engineering change requests and DCR’s.

·       Attend APQP and internal plant quality meetings and drive actions to address issues which impact product quality.

·       Facilitate issue resolution and corrective action implementation for supplier quality issues.

·       Support plant teardown and analysis process to ensure acceptable quality and product function.

·       Coordinate validation testing as needed for items such as continuous conformance, cost reduction, supplier deviation/change requests.

·       Support McLaren launch process (PDS) for program execution

·       Participate in value analysis and value engineering (VA/VE) activities.

·       Support customer technical meetings and presentations as required.

·       Utilize problem solving techniques such as 8-D, IS/IS-NOT and fishbone as part of failure analysis.

·       Manage tasks in multiple plants and projects simultaneously.

·       Willingness to travel up to 15% to domestic and international destinations.
