The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

ELECTRICIAN

The Electrician safely maintains, installs, troubleshoots and repairs electrical power and control systems and equipment throughout the mine and milling operation. The Electrician works collaboratively with the team to deliver execution of the integrated plan and schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1:

Safely maintain, install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical power and control systems and equipment throughout the mining and milling operation.

  Safely maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, variable frequency drives, electrical panels, breakers, industrial storage batteries, hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems.

  • Safely maintain, repair, and test switchgears, transformers and Motor Control Centers.
  • Read and interpret drawings, manuals, blueprints, schematics, Electrical Code and CSA Standards to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
  • Install, examine, replace or repair electrical cables, receptacles, conduits, cable trays, feeders, starters, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies and other electrical components.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records using the maintenance management system (Oracle eAM).
  • Complete all work orders and document additional repairs performed on each task.
  • Keep work area safe, clean, and well maintained. Take timely action to correct unsafe work conditions in the work area.
  • Diagnose and anticipate any problems or potential failures and provide recommendations for solutions.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and used in accordance with company health and safety standards.

  • Commit to continuous learning and improvement.

  • Watch for inefficiencies or problems.
  • Ensure problems and inefficiencies are shared with others.
  • Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Consider risk along the five dimensions (throughput, time, quality, sustainability and cost).

Area 3:

Work collaboratively with others to deliver operational reliability.

  • Coordinate with other team members on site to meet shift deliverables.
  • Mentor and train new team members.
  • Participate in and lend your expertise to the team.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using the tools provided.
  • Ensure equipment logs and shift logs are accurate and complete.
  • Ensure any deficiencies are communicated to the appropriate team members for follow up.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on our commitment to our team, our communities, the environment, and our shareholders.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves

minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Ontario Provincial or Inter-Provincial Electrical License is preferred.
  • Apprentices may be considered in accordance with business and legislative requirements.

Work experience - Nature & Length

  • A minimum of 4 years of related work experience.
  • Previous experience in open pit mining or mineral processing (specifically gold processing) is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with Medium and High Voltage equipment is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and maintenance software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
