Reporting the Director, EHS the  Manager, EHS will oversee a team of Advisors while working with the senior management team to ensure continuous improvement and standards for Aecon’s EHSMS are met on site. This role will support our Aecon Foundations division and will sit out of either Edmonton, Toronto/Etobicoke, or Calgary . Key Responsibilities Operationalize and implement corporate EHS strategies, goals, and objectives. Provides oversight and monitoring of the implementation, performance, and effectiveness of Aecon’s EHS Management system and appropriate operational Environmental, Health & Safety management plans (EHSMP). Accountable for building / recruiting team of EHS professionals within assigned scope and leads the development of EHS personnel through on-going coaching, mentoring. Lead development &/or facilitate various safety training and orientation to workers, supervisors, owners, and clients. Review work plans and sites before work commences, identifying safety-related risks. Work with management team/s and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on project sites. Notifies management of compliance issues associated with the work and assists in the development and implementation of corrective actions. Inspect work sites to evaluate ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance with Environmental & Occupational Health and Safety standards. Conducts audits, inspections, incident investigations and lead Serious Incident Investigations. Oversee & coordinate internal and/or external audits. Participate in sub-contractor safety prequalification process and ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards. Participates and/or lead various project / operational safety meetings. Ensures safety metrics are regularly compiled, trended, and reviewed with Project Management / Operational Leadership. Liaise with external parties such as government inspectors, sub-contractors, and public as required. Represent Aecon at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues regarding environmental, health and safety issues. Takes a leadership role in promoting injury prevention within a culture of health, safety, and continuous improvement. Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge and Experience Minimum 6 years’ experience coordinating and/or managing health and safety for heavy civil infrastructure projects. Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety: bachelor’s degree, community college or equivalent experience in the H&S field, Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent. Experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups. Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, excellent verbal, and written communication skills. Exceptional organizational and time management skills Understanding of Workers Compensation and return-to-work programs Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment Valid driver’s license with good driving record and the ability to drive to job sites. Ability to Travel
