Job Description

Reporting to the Provost Office, the Dual Credit Coordinator works in partnership with Deans, Associate Deans, and School Districts in the ongoing administration, development and operation of Dual Credit programs at Vancouver Island University.Under the direction of the Associate Vice-President, Academic, the Registrar, and the Dual Credit Oversight Committees, the Dual Credit Coordinator is responsible for tasks and areas identified by Deans, Dual-Credit oversight committees, Campus Principals, the Mid-Island Partnership and others who are connected to Dual Credit programs.The Dual Credit Coordinator will create a single point of access for VIU Nanaimo to provide information about, and to assist in the implementation of, dual-credit programming. Additionally, this position will streamline School Districts overall experience interacting with VIU on dual credit activities.Duties:The Dual Credit Coordinators duties include, but are not limited to:Serve as the primary point of contact for secondary students, parents, Deans, and School District personnel, for dual credit activities.Be the main point of contact for instructors working with secondary students, as needed.Liaise with regional campuses and collaborate with VIU faculty, VIU Dual Credit oversight committees, and School District teachers and administrators on the implementation of Dual Credit courses and programs.Demonstrate a strong service orientation and maintain positive relationships with members of the Mid-Island Partnership agreement (MIP) and internal VIU stakeholders.Identify and pursue opportunities to communicate dual credit opportunities and increase awareness and uptake of dual credit opportunities (e.g., presentations, PAC meetings)Collaborate with secondary students, parents, and other stakeholders, to connect resources to reduce barriers and resolve issues.Facilitate referrals to supports (e.g., tutoring, counseling, disability supports) for secondary students attending course(s) on VIU campuses.Develop and provide student orientations, interviews, parent orientations, social events, and teacher team meetings.Contribute to the MIP agreement and operating procedures, as needed.Participate on Dual Credit committees; bring forward, discuss, and resolve issues with Dual Credit processes.Retain Dual Credit records and collaborate on contract templates and formatting.Collaborate and liaise with the Office of the Registrar and the Office of University Planning and Analysis on Dual Credit data-gathering and reporting.Analyze, recommend, and continuously improve Dual Credit practices, as needed.Exhibit professionalism and a high standard of ethical behaviour.Required Qualifications:Bachelors Degree (Student Personnel, Social Work, Adult Education, Counselling, Education, or similarly relevant field) from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum three years demonstrated experience with relevant student program planning, student development, and the organization, implementation and evaluation of student-related initiatives.-Demonstrated awareness of, and ability to respond to, the developmental needs of a diverse student population.-Demonstrated excellence in communication with diverse stakeholders.-Demonstrated excellence in public speaking, group presentations, and group facilitation.-Demonstrated proficiency with technology relevant to the position, including Microsoft Office, student information systems, and relational database programs.Valid Class 5 Drivers License and a confirmed satisfactory driving record.VIU is pleased to offer eligible employees a comprehensive benefit plan; ample paid holiday time; professional development opportunities and a desirable pension plan.
