We're excited to announce a Division Manager opportunity within our esteemed Water and Wastewater Facilities team in Victoria. We are in search of an adept leader who embodies exceptional leadership qualities and possesses robust technical skills specifically tailored to water and wastewater municipal infrastructure, with a keen focus on process design. As the Division Manager, you'll have the chance to cultivate and lead a dynamic team, driving projects focused on Water Treatment and Distribution Facilities, alongside Sewage Collection and Treatment Facilities. The Opportunity:

This role presents an exceptional opportunity for individuals aspiring to enhance their leadership prowess within the realm of multi-disciplinary projects encompassing water and wastewater treatment and associated facilities. It offers the autonomy to cultivate and expand the division in alignment with strategic vision. Collaborating with a dynamic team comprising engineers, planners, surveyors, and support staff, you’ll engage and lead your team in diverse projects spanning from initial feasibility assessments and conceptual design to full project execution and commissioning.

The role requires not only a deep understanding of technical aspects but also necessitates business acumen, adept people leadership, financial acuity, client relationship management, and a flair for business development.

You'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the array of engineering services offered by McElhanney including civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and electrical, while nurturing collaborative relationships with our local branches, facilitating the delivery of projects within the communities we work, live, and play in. You will leverage and forge an extensive network within the industry, to establish and nurture relationships with key stakeholders such as municipalities, suppliers, regulators, and clients for identifying and capitalizing on new business opportunities.

The successful candidate will be based in Victoria and lead a team of 12 direct and 6 indirect reports, including senior, intermediate, and junior engineers located across Vancouver Island, Vancouver, and Northern Interior BC. They will play a pivotal role in mentoring junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team. Adept people leadership entails not only guiding the team towards project success but also nurturing the growth and advancement of individual team members. The Division Manager will inspire and motivate junior staff, providing guidance, support, and constructive feedback to help them excel in their roles. By fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment, the Division Manager will cultivate a cohesive team dynamic where every member feels valued and empowered to contribute their best.

Aligned with McElhanney's philosophy of mentorship and professional development, the successful candidate will benefit from ongoing mentorship and training under the seasoned guidance of our Victoria Branch Manager and the Regional leadership team.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead diverse water and wastewater facility projects; envision, manage technical, logistical, and financial aspects and carry out engineering design from proposal stage through to commissioning of the work
  • Hire, retain, coach and mentor staff fostering a positive, and an engaged culture
  • Facilitate continuous learning and professional development of team members
  • Collaborate with branches across the region and company to support local projects
  • Assist Branch Manager in branch operations including business development, workload, staffing, equipment, safety, quality, and financial outcomes
  • Assist Branch Manager in development and execution of branch strategic plans and budgets
  • Represent McElhanney to the external environment including clients, businesses, and professional associations to enhance McElhanney’s positive public profile.

What You'll Bring:

  • Degree in Engineering related to process design and mechanical process systems from an accredited university with strong technical skills and 12+ years of related technical experience in facility design. A Master’s degree would be an asset
  • Registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer in BC or Alberta, or the ability to obtain registration through existing inter-jurisdictional agreements
  • Practical experience in process engineering for water and sewage treatment, as well as mechanical and electrical systems, including regulatory requirements for BC and Alberta. Experience with process technologies and suppliers is essential. Knowledge of guidelines, policies, standards, and bylaws is an asset
  • Proven ability to attract and retain clients, win projects and consistently provide high quality deliverables on time and on budget
  • Strong people, leadership, business and organizational skills
  • A great attitude with the ability to lead, develop, build trust and engagement, and motivate team members

What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $170,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
