Why this role is important?

Reporting to the Senior Director, Strategic Pharmaceutical Partnerships & SHN Business Development, the Director is responsible for the identification and development of growth strategies and new lines of business in partnership with our pharmaceutical partners across the Shoppers Drug Mart enterprise. The Director will lead the team’s business development efforts, working with cross-functional teams and senior leadership across the enterprise, as well as key strategic partners. We are seeking an individual with experience in strategic partnerships and business development within healthcare and, ideally, an understanding pharmacy.

This is a highly cross-functional role that will provide you with exposure to senior leaders within the Loblaw enterprise and our external pharmaceutical and medical device partners. You will have an opportunity to learn about different areas of our business and is an excellent role for developing your career within our enterprise. You will also be responsible for managing direct reports.

What You'll Do:
  • Build, develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key pharmaceutical partners to support achievement of business goals
  • Be accountable for driving business targets, growth strategies and new lines of business across the pharmaceutical partnership portfolio
  • Lead environment scans, market research, competitive analyses, and financial modelling, interpreting findings into business opportunities for partnership growth
  • Negotiate with potential new partners on products, services and offerings, and related commercial terms and partnership models
  • Work closely with digital health product teams to ensure the prioritization, implementation and growth of growth strategies and new lines of business
  • Collaborate closely with our patient support program business (Specialty Health Network by Shoppers)
  • Collect and analyze data to support strategies and decision-making
  • Use superior PowerPoint and written communication skills to create presentations which captivate senior leadership, cross-functional team members and potential partners
  • Become the subject matter expert in new innovation, especially related to pharmaceuticals, medical devices (e.g., point-of-care testing; blood glucose monitors), and digital health
What You'll Need:
  • University degree with a concentration in Business or Health Sciences, preferred
  • MBA or similar master’s degree, preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in business development and strategic planning in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or medical technology
  • Strong background in partnerships and business strategy is required
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Team leadership experience
  • Must be able to develop business cases with accompanying investment metric models
  • Ability to be proactive on deliverables
  • Ability to work within a dynamic rapidly growing and evolving environment
  • Ability to work with cross-functional departments to achieve business goals
  • Ability to support negotiations and partnerships with external vendors and business partners
  • Ability to understand healthcare regulatory frameworks and healthcare ecosystem
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
