Job Description

SERDC is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Human Resources to join our team. Reporting to the Executive Director, this key leadership role involves driving strategic human resource initiatives, with an emphasis on building and nurturing relationships with SERDC’s communities to encourage local capacity building. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a robust focus on recruitment and retention strategies to attract and maintain top talent within the organization.

Key Responsibilities are as follows:

Strategic HR Leadership
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and management team to develop and implement human resource strategies that align with SERDC’s goals and community needs.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on human resource management to all levels of the organization.
Community Engagement and Relationship Building
  • A relevant degree or diploma in a field related to human resource management or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • Minimum five years experience in an HR management position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key legislation pertaining to employment and human rights laws.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and Southeast communities is an asset.
  • Ability to speak Ojibwe language is an asset.
Recruitment and Retention
  • Develop and execute innovative recruitment strategies to identify potential labor markets, attract qualified candidates, and retain existing employees.
  • Oversee the entire recruitment process, including advertising vacant positions, screening applications, conducting interviews, and reference checks.
Employee Development and Succession Planning
  • Create and manage employee professional development programs to enhance skills and career growth.
  • Implement succession planning initiatives to ensure knowledge transfer and organizational continuity.
Employee Relations and Wellness
  • Address and resolve employee relations issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Develop and promote employee wellness and workplace safety programs.
Compensation and Benefits Management
  • Advise on compensation practices and develop competitive salary recommendations to attract key talent.
  • Evaluate and administer employee benefit plans and reward programs.
Compliance and Policy Administration
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and internal policies.
  • Manage human resource information systems and maintain accurate employee records.
Qualifications
  • A relevant degree or diploma in human resource management, business administration, industrial relations, or a related social science. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Solid understanding of relevant legislation pertaining to employment and human rights laws, business/public administration, and organizational goals.
  • Experience working within First Nations communities and knowledge of First Nations organizations in Manitoba.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse viewpoints and earn the trust and cooperation of managers, employees, and unions.
  • Leadership and team-building abilities with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in HR information systems
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity and good judgment
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and Southeast communities is an asset.
  • Ability to speak Ojibwe language is an asset.

Work Environment
