Job Description

Our client is a professional services firm in Vancouver. They are looking for an HR Director to lead and manage the HR department, ensuring the effective implementation of HR strategies and initiatives that support the firm’s business objectives. We are looking for a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of HR practices, employment law and organizational development, particularly within the context of a professional services environment.

Responsibilities:

Strategic HR Management:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the firm’s business goals.
  • Advise the executive team on HR best practices, policies, and trends.
  • Oversight of HR team and work collaboratively with senior department heads throughout the firm.

Talent Acquisition and Retention:

  • Oversee the recruitment process, ensuring the attraction of top talent.
  • Develop and implement retention strategies to support long term retention and foster employee engagement.
  • Collaborate with department heads to identify staffing needs and succession planning.

Employee Relations:

  • Manage employee relations issues, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee concerns, mediating conflicts and facilitating resolutions.

Performance Management:

  • Implement and manage changes to performance appraisal systems to support employee development and accountability.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to department heads on performance-related issues.

Learning and Development:

  • Oversea certain firm wide training programs that enhance employee skills and support career development.
  • Promote continuous learning and development opportunities within the firm.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Oversee compensation and benefits programs, ensuring they are competitive and aligned with the firm’s goals.
  • Conduct regular reviews of compensation structures to maintain market competitiveness.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Develop and enforce HR policies and procedures.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI):

  • Promote and implement DEI initiatives to foster an inclusive workplace environment.
  • Monitor and report on DEI metrics and progress.

HR Metrics and Reporting:

  • Utilize HR metrics to assess the effectiveness of HR initiatives.
  • Provide regular reports to the executive team on HR activities and outcomes.

Organizational Development:

  • Lead change management initiatives to support organizational growth and transformation.
  • Facilitate team-building activities and initiatives that promote a positive organizational culture.

HRIS Systems:

  • Lead the implementation of a new Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
  • Evaluate and identify suitable HRIS solutions that align with the firm’s needs and integrate with other firm systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • CPHR certification required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of HR experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a professional services environment, preferably in the legal, accounting, finance, brokerage, or insurance areas.
  • Extensive experience with HRIS systems, including the selection, implementation, and management of new systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian employment laws and regulations.
  • Proven experience in strategic HR planning and execution.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.
