Overall Purpose:Power To Be is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing access to nature for individuals facing cognitive, physical, financial, and social barriers. We empower the exploration of boundless capabilities through our nature-based programs. The Director of Finance should be sociable, possess strong communication skills, and have a passion for their profession. Reporting to the Co-CEOs, the Director of Finance will oversee the accounting operations of the organization. Responsibilities include generating periodic financial reports, upholding the accounting records system, and implementing a comprehensive set of controls and budgets to minimize risk, improve the accuracy of the organizations financial results, and ensure compliance with Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations.Candidates in need of accommodations are encouraged to contact Sharde Long, the Director of People & Culture, at slong@powertobe.ca.SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:FinanceOverall financial management including approval and development of, monthly, quarterly and annual financial statementsResponsible for finance and accounting, including reviewing A/R, A/P, GL transactions, payroll, and ensuring quality control over financial transactions and ensuring financial reporting is maintainedMonitor and forecast cash flowsPrepare and publish timely monthly financial statements, working closely with Co-CEOs to communicate financial metrics and understand operational variancesResponsible for the creation of quarterly reports for the Board of Directors and the Audit and Finance CommitteeLead and facilitate quarterly and annual close process and the annual financial auditImplement complex transactions in consultation with the Co-CEOsDevelop, document, and audit business processes and financial controls policies to maintain and strengthen internal controlsManage and comply with government/regulatory reporting requirements and filingsWork closely with the Leadership Team and their staff to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures and explore how the finance function can best support their departmentsCoordinate budgeting and re-forecasting process with the Leadership Team in collaboration with the Co-CEOsIn collaboration with the Head of Grants & Impact responsible for grant compliance Provide strategic financial advice and guidance to the Co-CEOsAdhere to and mentor others to adhere to the Income Tax Act, CRA guidelines, Canadian accounting standards for Not for Profit organizations Management and LeadershipRecruit, supervise, develop, train, and support finance staff and volunteers in alignment with organizational values and policies, the BC Employment Standards Act and other related policies or proceduresOversee scheduling for relevant employees and volunteersPromote a positive and co-operative work environment aligned with the Power To Be values of respect, integrity and innovationProvide feedback regularly and constructively to hold team members accountable to our vision, team culture and individual responsibilitiesSet relevant quarterly and annual team benchmarks with regular follow upCreate a sense of confidence and trust so that change is regarded as a contribution to social impact; participate in or lead the annual review of incidents and related policiesProvide leadership on all related policy, procedures, goals, industry standards and legislationAdhere to Participant Protection Policy and be a champion for this effortOperationsAdhere to the annual operating budget, capital budget and financial controlsResponsible for leading the strategic development of annual operating and capital budgetsProvide timely assistance and leadership in administrative functions such as documentation, progress reports, external and internal communications, receipt management and trackingReview quarterly individual and departmental work plans with the Co-CEOs set work, vacation, training and professional development schedules to ensure adequate coverageIntegrate the use of technology as core practice to ensure the effective deployment of Power To Be assets and work flow with specific consideration for privacy standardsAct in accordance with brand standards, the donor recognition policy and related standardsActively cultivate a positive reputation for Power To Be by acting in accordance with organizational values when communicatingSupport community and fundraising events as directedParticipate in a Power To Be program once per quarterPerform other related duties, as required.
