BC General Employees’ Union (“BCGEU”) is among British Columbia’s largest and most diverse labour unions with over 85,000 members in 550 bargaining units across both the public and private sector. Concurrent with a significant reform in the union’s governance and modernization efforts, the BCGEU is now seeking a Director of Human Resources to play a critical role in advancing a number of ambitious organizational goals within the union’s constitutional mandate. As part of this modernization plan, the union seeks a talented and progressive HR leader to work closely and supportively with the Board and staff teams to improve the overall effectiveness and responsiveness of the union to its members. As a head of a growing Human Resources department, this individual will introduce best practices around recruitment, job and performance evaluation, training and development and organisational design. This role will be a member of the senior excluded staff team and will also participate in staff bargaining as assigned. The ideal candidate is a seasoned human resources professional who brings experience at a senior level working with unionized employees. As a highly strategic thinker who brings a successful track record of managing change, the Director will be an effective communicator and operator, adept at managing relationships. Ultimately, this Director will enjoy what is a newly created role, and have an opportunity to put their own stamp on helping to solidify BCGEU as one of Canada’s most progressive and effective unions. The BCGEU operates 12 servicing offices throughout the province, and in addition is home to three buildings in the lower mainland, where the BCGEU is headquartered. And while some flexible work arrangements are possible, significant time in the office will be required. The base for this role is approximately $168,000, plus a generous benefits package and inclusion in the Public Service Pension Plan. To explore this opportunity further, please click 'Apply '.
