Job Description

The Director, Human Resources Consulting Services is accountable for leading the delivery of HR programs & processes to support the achievement of organizational goals and objectives for all of Seaspan Marine Transportation and Shipyards.
The role builds and maintains an effective working relationship with leaders and HR Centres of Excellence (COEs) in order to drive organizational success and achieve team effectiveness, engagement and business results. Acts as a trusted partner and advisor to the business creating an effective and integrating strategy for advancing the business through human resources programs.
Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.
What you'll do

  • Partner with senior leaders to evolve and implement robust human resources strategies as appropriate for each respective business unit to drive business objectives.
  • Lead the development of human resources business partnerships with leaders and management throughout the organization, building high level of professional credibility and mutual trust while ensuring internal clients have access to high quality human resources advice and guidance to support in delivering business strategy and plans.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to HR Business Partners who serve as primary contact and strategic partner to the business.
  • Accountable for HR Program Delivery to clients through an HR Business Partner model.
  • Support the development of policies for area of responsibility or department.
  • In partnership with the HR COEs, acts as a strategic advisor on all aspects of human resources including performance management, talent acquisition, career & leadership development, employee relations, employee engagement and total rewards.
  • Delivers high quality, proactive HR consultation that enables the attainment of strategic business goals and critical initiatives.
  • Runs annual HR processes with the HR Business Partner team (performance management, talent review, succession planning and compensation).
  • Provides organizational development initiatives and support including organizational design, leadership transitions, change management and communications.
  • Investigates, and propose solutions for, very complex and/or contentious Employee Relations cases in liaison with managers; coordinate the organization's response to legal cases brought by individuals; contribute to the preparation of legal submissions through Employee Relations department as necessary and ensure all parties complete casework accurately and within deadlines.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
  • University degree with focus on Human Resources or Business.
  • CHRP certification required.
  • Minimum 12 years of HR experience, preferably within a complex unionized environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a senior HR leadership position.
  • Trusted leader with a track record of building collaborative relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and complete competing demands and adjust quickly based on evolving HR or business needs.
  • Experience in sophisticated consulting skills related to HR concepts and the ability to persuade/influence leaders on suggested action for turning business issues/problems into viable HR/business solutions.
  • Ability to mentor employees and management through complex and difficult issues.
  • Expertise and comfort in designing processes, workflows, policies and best HR practices.
  • Ability to advise stakeholders of all levels and develop and implement solutions accordingly.
  • Project management and organization skills to balance multiple projects (small and large) with conflicting priorities and deliver projects on time with excellence.
  • Familiarity with interpretation of Collective Agreements and building solid Union relationships by fostering trust and mutual respect.
  • Ability to deliver concise and precise messages to top management to assist in decision making.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

The estimated salary for this position is $162,000 - $198,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
