This is a remote/work-from-home position and the successful candidate must reside in Ontario or Nova Scotia. On-site attendance may be required periodically.

Job Summary:

The Director Finance provides oversight of VON financial policies and procedures for the most effective use of the company's assets while ensuring they are safeguarded. The Director Finance provides support to the Managers in the Finance department and is a consistent liaison between the operational sites and Finance. The Director Finance is responsible for continuous improvement in the finance function and ensuring value is added to our internal clients.

Key Responsibilities: Ensures financial policies and procedures are in place to optimize the return on company's assets. Ensures financial policy development and reporting formats are accurate and delivered in a timely manner, aligning the finance value proposition with the strategic outcomes of the business units. Ensures effective internal controls and risk management strategies are in place to safeguard the company's assets. Optimizes the delivery of professional financial and accounting services with a focus on customer centricity. Ensures finance resources (including systems and people) are effectively and efficiently deployed, aligning talent competencies, professional development and training opportunities. Ensures professional accounting standards are developed and implemented for compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and external reporting requirements for charitable organizations. Leads the process for preparing monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy within the established timelines. Ensures all balance sheets accounts are reconciled, analyzed and are fully supported with the appropriate audit evidence. Leads the process for preparing external funder reporting, ensuring accuracy and delivery of reports within the established timelines. Leads the process to prepare all audit requirements and ensure they are accurately prepared and within the pre-established timelines. Provides responses to inquiries from auditors. Prepares complex financial analysis supporting operations and corporate services departments in their decision-making processes as required. Oversees the preparation of the operational budgets including: support to the Site Operations departments and Finance Managers or Corporate Services departments in preparing annual budgets. Oversees the preparation of the annual audit templates that support the preparation of the annual audited financial statements. Reviews and implements control processes to ensure accuracy in the financial statements. Attends finance meetings to support site operations in their review of financial results and understanding actual variances compared to budget. Participates as a team member in project teams and committees as required, including the SAP working group, and priority. Education, Designations and Experience: Post-Secondary Degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance. A Professional accounting designation as a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) A minimum of 7 years' experience, including a minimum of 3 years' experience managing people within a finance department and experience in financial reporting. Strong technical knowledge of Canadian GAAP, specifically in a not-for-profit environment. Experience implementing process improvements. Experience with SAP, Board, Cognos, Procura and AlayaCare is considered an asset. Skill Requirements: Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills. Transformation experience and efficiency project experience. Strong computer skills (SAP, BOARD, Excel, MS Word, Excel and Outlook) Other:

A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required. A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required. Ability to speak French is an asset in French Designated areas. Working conditions and physical demands: This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
