Reports to:Chief Executive Officer Direct reports:Associate Director, Finance & AccountingFull-Time Equivalent:0.2 – 0.3 Overview of Responsibilities:The Director holds primary responsibility for the financial and risk management functions of United Way. They are a member of the senior leadership team and provide strategic leadership for all responsible areas. The Director directly influences and participates in day-to-day financial operations, budgets and long-range planning for the organization. The Director serves in an advisory capacity to the CEO and Board of Directors as required. Key Responsibilities/ Essential Functions:The major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Financial Management:Directs all aspects of accounting and financial management including development of a framework for policies and procedures, approvals and authorities, and overall corporate protocols related to budget development, forecasting and monitoring processes, fund collection and reporting, and preparation of statements and other financial reporting mechanisms. ·Oversees the accounting, payment and reporting functions. Reviews monthly financial statements and provides guidance to Associate Director,Finance & Accounting. ·Works with auditors as required during annual audits. ·Prepares the annual budget and coordinates the development of the annual operating plan. ·Manages the organization’s cash flow and investments, with input from Associate Director, Finance & Accounting. ·Supports and acts as the primary contact for the Board’s Risk and Audit Committee, providing regular and detailed financial reports and preparing summaries of these reports for submission to the Board. ·Oversees the management of all organizational contracts and financial commitments. Risk Management:•Develops and monitors the organization’s risk management processes to ensure that program and organizational risks are adequately managed. Planning and Innovation:·As a member of the senior leadership team, participates and works strategically to ensure organizational success. ·Provides input and works collaboratively with other organizational functions to meet organizational goals. ·Leads the development and evaluation of annual operating plans and budgets. Relationship Building and Engagement:·Supports, stewards and builds relationships with stakeholders, donors, volunteers and staff to deepen their understanding of United Way’s impact in the community. ·Participates in United Way and community events and strives to expand United Way’s network within the community. Recognizes and pursues opportunities to engage key leaders in the organization. ·Builds and maintains positive relationships with partners and key stakeholders in the community, especially those that align with United Way’s strategic priorities.Other:·Staff lead for the Risk and Audit Committee. ·Provides support to the CEO as required including handling regular financial reporting requirements with the Board, preparing specialized reports as required, and providing targeted services to the CEO in response to in-the-moment financial needs. ·Participates in regional and national United Way Centraide Canada initiatives and incorporates best practices into our local work. ·Undertaking special projects and performs other related duties as assigned. Experience/Position Requirements:·CPA designation with 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience ·Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting standards ·Proficiency in Word and Excel, Sage 50 and experience in managing a CRM database ·Strong people management with experience building, motivating, mentoring and coaching a diverse team of staff and senior level volunteers ·Highly developed technical and analytical skills with ability to use expert level judgment for strategic thinking and problem solving ·Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to achieve strategic and organizational objectives ·Proven organizational abilities and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure ·Superior communication and writing skills and the ability to effectively convey information to various internal and external stakeholders ·Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and customer service skills including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively in a diverse team environment. Working Environment:·Works in an office utilizing Windows Operating system, MS Office and a CRM database. ·Must be able to work a flexible schedule with more input required at month-end and during budget preparation and annual audit. Communicates and enforces policies and procedures, establishes and monitors internal controls, as well as implements and maintains effective financial reporting and cash management procedures. ·Enterprise Risk Manager:Plans and implements measures that will avoid and/or mitigate the negative impact of actual and potential risks to the organization.
