Note: This is a full-time Administrative position (37.5 hours per week).

Duties: The Director, Campus Planning and Capital Development, is accountable for strategic leadership and stewardship, implementation and administration of the College’s real property matters, owned and non-owned/leased facilities and physical infrastructure in order to provide a pleasant, functional learning and working environment for the College Community. With the Campus Development Plan, the College Strategic Framework, Goals and Objectives and the iMAPP as guides, the Director is responsible for all phases of effective planning and management of activities related to campus development and infrastructure renewal for all College campuses, centres and sites.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Campus Development Plan and Capital Plan development and oversight
  • Real property administration
  • Capital building expansions, renovations and adaptations
  • College and Ministry reporting
  • Infrastructure renewal and deferred maintenance prioritization and planning
  • Resource management

The Director is responsible for ensuring that sound management practices and processes are in place for College compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations and codes as well as occupational health and safety related to design, construction and accessibility of real property.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary 4-year Bachelor of Engineering, Architecture or combination of education and experience in a related discipline such as Architectural, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Construction, or Campus Planning and Development in an institution of higher education or equivalent education and progressive work experience
  • Member of Architecture, Engineering or Technologists professional body and Certified Educational Facilities Professional ( CEFP ) designation
  • Preference given to Ontario Association of Architects ( OAA ), Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Member of the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario ( MAATO ) or Certified Construction Contract Administrator ( CCCA ) designation
  • Minimum 9 years’ progressive experience with 6 years’ at a senior leadership level
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the education requirements
  • Experience in a major institution sector such as Higher Education, Medical/Hospital, Service industry, including real property, facilities planning, and successfully managing multi-million-dollar construction and renovation projects on time and on budget
  • Technical knowledge of building systems including building envelope, mechanical ( HVAC ), electrical, plumbing as well as central plants, site services infrastructure, information technology, and security technologies
  • Knowledge of liabilities and responsibilities of project owners and constructors and construction industry best practices
  • Knowledge of construction law, applicable building, fire and safety legislation, regulations, codes, standards and architectural, engineering and construction practices
  • Ability to plan, organize, delegate and evaluate work as well in collaborate with others
  • Must be able to effectively motivate subordinates and establish a high-performance team and persuades and influences others to actively consider alternatives for change in order to achieve required goals or outcomes
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including MS Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word, Project and Visio) and AutoCAD ( BIM )
  • Preference for Archibus and SLAM software experience
  • Ability to successfully work within a close team environment using highly developed communication skills
  • Able to function in a highly demanding environment requiring ability to identify and manage multiple issues/ challenges against competing interests
  • Sound working knowledge of principles, services and operations across the range of functions required by institutions of higher education (college and universities)
  • Excellent presentation skills, effective communicator and team builder
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage change, launch and successfully manage major projects/initiatives to satisfactory completion
