To support our vision of empowered young women challenging and transforming the world, we are currently seeking a Digital Marketing & Content Specialist. Reporting to the Head of Marketing & Communications, the Digital Marketing & Content Specialist is a compelling storyteller - someone who can easily identify communications opportunities and find dynamic ways to share good news stories. In this position, you will positively position SMLS across its social media platforms and assist with key communications activities. The Digital Marketing & Content Specialist is responsible for making recommendations and implementing effective communications strategies and best practices to support and advance the school’s marketing and communications efforts and to engage all members of the SMLS community.

Position DetailsDepartment: Marketing & CommunicationsReports to: Head of Marketing & CommunicationsLiaises with: Senior Leadership Team Members, Staff, Faculty, Students, Volunteers, Parents, Third Party Providers/Partners, Prospective Families, Community-at-largeEducation: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media, Digital Media, or equivalent preferred. Membership with the IABC, CPRS, or other relevant professional association will be considered an asset.Experience: 3-5 years of experience in digital media and content development and strategy, preferably in a not-for-profit or school environment; experience with web standardsComputer Skills: Mac, Google, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, Social Media Platforms. Familiarity with Blackbaud is a considerable plus.Working Conditions: This position is in-person with a shared office at our school, supporting ongoing communications projects and keeping members of the SMLS community engaged and informed. Evening and weekend work may be necessary on occasion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Head of Marketing & Communications to ensure that SMLS’ marketing communications initiatives are:a) Integrated in all of the school’s outward-facing communications,b) Consistent with the school’s vision, mission and values, and c) Effectively championed and represent the school’s brand.

  • Plan and execute social media opportunities to promote the school. This includes preparing content calendars for various social media channels, writing social media copy, seeking approvals, editing photography and videos when needed, sourcing photography and video of key events and activities, and attending events and activities to capture photos or video clips for social media use.

  • Collaborate across the school community in support of school-wide activities, providing creative support, content curation, editing, production, and delivery of school news.

  • Serve as a “roving reporter” around the school, identifying opportunities to highlight our school, student and community successes and sharing them in ways that help deliver on strategic priorities

  • Develop, storyboard, conceive creative concepts, edit, and produce content that engages key stakeholders within the school community (including but not limited to students, parents, employees, alumnae) and communicates the school’s strategies and unique value proposition in creative, compelling ways.

  • Actively participate in the design and development of SMLS’ social media marketing strategy paying particular attention to the emergence of new platforms and technologies.

  • Monitor the school’s social media channels, tracking engagement, managing inboxes and direct messages, directing or responding to queries appropriately, and flagging any issues.

  • Ensure the school’s external website and internal website (MySMLS) are up-to-date, reflect school branding, and provide a positive user experience.

  • Organize and maintain a multi-media library of images and videos for use in the school’s promotional materials.

  • Proofread school communications for errors of fact, style and grammar.

  • Contribute to and assist with the development of other school communications and publications, as required.

  • Event support, as required.

Your Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Experience with a range of digital media tools.

  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and digital campaign management.

  • Demonstrated ability to stay on top of current trends in digital media.

  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and communications skills.

  • Experience with photography, videography, video editing and production skills.

  • Exemplary communication and collaboration skills with the proven ability to develop relationships and a caring rapport with colleagues, students and their families.

  • A self-starter who is eager to learn and can quickly master new and emerging technology.
