It will be entrepreneurial, innovative, and customer-centric in its approach, with a strategic objective that addresses the unique needs of everyday Canadians. POSITION SUMMARY The Development Manager plays a key role in growing and managing the software team of the new division. This position requires a balance of technical expertise, people management, and strategic planning to ensure successful project execution. Responsibilities include overseeing project planning, execution, and delivery, setting clear goals and expectations for team members aligned with the organization's objectives. Collaborating with stakeholders, you'll define project requirements, manage expectations, and negotiate priorities to ensure alignment with business goals. You'll champion the engineering team, develop project plans, drive best practices, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging feedback and identifying opportunities for growth. MAJOR ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE Key accountabilities of this position include: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of software projects. Set clear goals and expectations for team members, and ensure alignment with the organization's objectives. Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support career development for team members. Collaborate with product managers, technical leads, and other stakeholders to define project requirements, scope, and timelines. Manage expectations and negotiate priorities, timelines, and resource allocations to ensure alignment with business goals and objectives. Act as a champion for the engineering team, advocating for their needs and contributions within the organization. Develop project plans, allocate resources, and prioritize tasks to ensure timely and successful project delivery. Drive the adoption of best practices, coding standards, and software engineering methodologies to ensure the delivery of high-quality, maintainable software. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging feedback, retrospectives, and post-mortems to identify lessons learned and opportunities for growth. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Qualifications Strong educational background, such as a bachelor’s or higher degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience Strong background in software engineering with a deep understanding of software development principles, best practices, and technologies, including DevOps practices Proficiency in project management methodologies with a focus on Agile methodologies Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of software engineers, providing direction, support, and mentorship to foster their professional growth and development Ability to assess technical feasibility, evaluate design alternatives, and make informed decisions to drive software development projects forward Experience in setting clear goals and expectations, delegating tasks, and holding team members accountable for their performance and results Experience in evaluating trade-offs, balancing technical considerations with business needs Experience delivering software in a regulated environment Attributes Pragmatic and results-oriented, focused on achieving tangible outcomes Customer-focused, with a dedication to understanding and meeting customer needs Skilled at identifying and nurturing talent within the team Possesses strong relationship-building skills, adept at establishing trust, influencing stakeholders, and diplomatically resolving conflicts Hybrid working environment Why Join the New Division?
