Title: Cyber Security Specialist in Higher Education

Contract: TBD

Location: Remote in Canada

We're actively seeking a seasoned Cyber Security Specialist in Higher Education to develop, plan, recommend, implement, improve, and monitor security measures to protect computer networks, connected devices and information to prevent unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction of the information or of the systems on which the information reside. This role is crucial as we endeavor to secure access to a standing offer from one of our clients.

Role Overview

As a Cyber Security Specialist in Higher Education, you will be responsible for developing, planning, recommending, implementing, improving, and monitoring security measures to safeguard computer networks, connected devices, and sensitive information. Your role is pivotal in preventing unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction of critical data and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement robust security strategies tailored to the unique challenges of the higher education environment.
  • Plan and execute security measures to protect computer networks, connected devices, and information assets.
  • Recommend and deploy security tools and technologies to enhance defense mechanisms.
  • Continuously assess and improve security protocols to stay ahead of evolving threats.
  • Monitor security systems for signs of intrusion or potential security breaches.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff and students on cybersecurity best practices.

Requirements

  • Proven 10+ years experience in cyber security, with a focus on protecting information in the higher education sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of security protocols, cryptography, network security, and information security best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and mitigate security risks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across departments to implement security measures.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CompTIA Security+ are preferred but not mandatory.
  • A commitment to staying updated on emerging threats and security trends in the field of higher education.
