Job Description

We are searching for a Cost & Inventory Accountant to join our accounting team. This position will identify and analyze manufacturing costs and variances to recommend changes to increase overall production and efficiency while maintaining responsibility for ensuring that wholesale inventory, and related costing and analysis are prepared in a timely manner to facilitate management decision making with respect to product mix and facility utilization. This position requires performance of Inventory accounting, cost management and controls, general accounting, and external reporting to government agencies

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reconcile inventory transactions for internal and external warehouses on a monthly basis for finished goods, raw materials and packaging with associated team leads.
  • Reconcile batch count data as required, monthly or weekly
  • Support accounts receivable with inventory adjustments as required
  • Plan/supervise/schedule/execute physical inventory counts and auditing inventories while continuously improving inventory control policies and practices
  • Consolidate a variance summary from the monthly inventory counts for approval and complete all adjusting entries
  • Complete inventory variance analysis, identifying key cost drivers of variances, and provide insight on improvement opportunities with key stakeholders within the business
  • Prepare, analyze and report on inventory costing results and variances including provision for expired product and monthly adjustments for disposals
  • Collect and verify purchases from vendors orders and item journals and making necessary adjustments for freight and deposits, and receives items into the ERP systems (SAP B1)
  • Support the development of enhanced information capture and reporting systems
  • Implementation, maintenance and audit of inventory processes/procedures and controls within the ERP and/or any other technology tools and systems
  • Supply supporting documentation for product provisioned for disposal and complete associated entries
  • Identify opportunities to improve effectiveness and efficiency throughout the organization
  • In collaboration with Brewing and packaging teams update system information and seeks ways to improve efficiency
  • Responsible for monthly working papers for input into the excise tax submissions and payment requisitions to the CRA and applicable provincial governing bodies (ie Minister of Finance offices provincially)
  • Liaise with the various governing provincial agencies (ie Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (“AGLC”) on relevant inventory reporting and movements
  • Analyzes supplier costs and investigates above-average cost increases
  • Actively bring awareness to deficient inventory management processes
  • Maintain inventory database with regards to items and barcodes
  • Oversee the administrative accounting related processes for inventory tracking and providing support and guidance as needed
  • Conduct periodic spot checks of warehouse excess, expired and variety packed product
  • Develop working paper audit files, assist in collecting data / information for external auditors
  • Ad hoc financial, costing and pricing analysis
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary Education in a Business, Finance/Accounting (OR equivalent combination of experience and education)
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressively increasing levels of responsibility in a manufacturing operations organizationexperience in operational Accounting (equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered).
  • Experience working with ERP and cost accounting systems
  • Working knowledge of SAP B1 an asset
  • Experience with Workday Adaptive and PowerBI an asset
  • Strong analytic progressive thinking Strong knowledge of inventory control ERP and MRP systems, as well as Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word.
  • Previous experience with accounting and financials for manufacturing organization
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to anticipate and solve problems, exercise sound judgment, act decisively, and persist in the face of obstacles.
  • Proven ability to handle diverse activities and concurrent projects.
  • Excellent organizations skill and strict attention to detail.
  • Self-directed, personally motivated with strong attention to detail.
  • Team-player able to work well with others and contribute to a positive work environment.
