Title : Coordinator - Emergency Management

Employee Working Location : Partially Virtual / Hybrid (Kelowna, BC)

Employment Status : Permanent Full-Time

Salary Band : $ 58,695 - $ 73,369 / year

In this role, you will :

Responsibility 1: Volunteer Management

  • Incorporate all aspects of the CRC Volunteer Management Cycle to building strong teams ensuring longevity and sustainability.
  • Contribute to workforce planning assessments by identifying local operational needs, gaps, and promotions within the volunteer workforce.
  • Responsible for directly supporting as well as engaging teams in volunteer sourcing initiatives to achieve set targets as part of the defined recruitment strategies and tactics.
  • Ensure completion of local and program-specific onboarding and orientation activities with volunteers.
  • Implement and lead programmatic volunteer engagement through regular communication, activities and informal recognition, as well as support centrally managed engagement activities including those developed or rolled out by the Volunteer Engagement and Experience (VEE) Manager.

Responsibility 2: Emergency Preparedness

  • Coordinate disaster risk reduction and readiness activities in an all-hazards approach with particular emphasis on relevant risks, and in line with CRC Readiness Standards.
  • Develop and execute training workshops and opportunities (such as scenario-based, functional, tabletop & full scale) for regional teams to ensure high levels confidence and readiness.
  • Contribute to provincial statistics and reporting by compiling and maintaining statistics and data reporting, as requested by EM leadership.
  • In support of Supply Chain Management/Logistics, provide support to management of physical assets.
  • Ensure overall regional teams' readiness for ESS, PDAT and ERT responses.
  • Supervise and contribute to the development and support of the implementation of Emergency Response Plans (ERPs) in accordance with programs standards, including workforce planning.

Responsibility 3: Emergency Response And Relationship Building

  • Play a key role during local, provincial, and national disasters and emergency responses as required including on-call Duty Officer shifts.
  • In times of small-scale responses, lead and or support all response activities including activation, duration, and demobilization.
  • Participate in or leads debriefs and after-action activities to contribute to a cycle of preparation and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders including local and municipal governments, NGOs, First responders, Provincial governments and agencies, as well as community leaders in a continuous effort to enhance response capacity.

What we are looking for :

  • University degree or community college diploma in one or more of the following disciplines; adult education, administration, emergency management, project management, community development, volunteer management, planning and evaluation or a related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience demonstrating experience in excellent relationship management and relationship development at all levels of government.
  • Proven skillsets in effective listening, communication, evaluation of evidence, decision making and accountability.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects at one time in a high paced environment and work effectively under pressure.
  • Experience in providing volunteer management excellence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or connection to the community.
  • Demonstrated experience in development of plans and exercises.
  • Preference may be given to a candidate with a background in emergency management.
  • Experience and training in media relations and public speaking an asset.

Working conditions :

  • Outside of responses, work will be primarily performed from home with some in-office requirements.
  • Travel throughout the assigned geography will be required with occasional overnight travel.
  • May require non-traditional work hours and to be on call to respond to emergency and disaster-related events.
  • In times of response, may be called upon to fill roles within the emergency response structure, and may need to deploy away from home for periods of several weeks, local or virtual assignments and/or business continuity activities.
  • Valid driver's license with willingness to travel within province. Ability to provide a satisfactory driver's abstract. Access to a vehicle is mandatory.
