Our Motive is to develop innovative action games set in iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero. Let's say that again—iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero. Our passion has taken us from imagining dogfighter pilots in Star Wars: Squadrons to re-creating Isaac Clarke onboard the Ishimura in Dead Space.

Currently, we're working on two exciting projects, an original Iron Man action-adventure game and what's coming next for Battlefield. Although our approach may seem simple, it leads us to create the best work of our careers, bringing unique and immersive experiences to our players.

Motive is looking for a Principal Gameplay Designer to join the Iron Man team and drive the design and implementation of enemy characters. You will join a team of gameplay designers who report to the Associate Gameplay Director in charge of moment-to-moment gameplay.

Responsibilities:

  • Take direction from design leadership and drive the vision and design of enemy characters and related game systems to create and support engaging combat experiences
  • Oversee, coordinate, and review AI work
  • Optionally, manage a small number of other AI designers
  • Work with other designers to ensure all parts of the combat experience support one another and the overall game loop
  • Communicate the design to the team through multiple channels, including written design documents
  • Prototype, implement, and maintain features and content using Unreal Engine 5
  • Collaborate across disciplines, including art, animation, programming, and level design, to develop your features and ensure a top-tier player experience
  • Review the game against the design goals and identify issues and opportunities to improve the player experience
  • Receive and incorporate feedback from multiple sources to improve your features

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience developing video games
  • Design credits on at least one title where you were responsible for major parts of the design of enemy AI, combat systems, or bosses
  • Experience working hands-on with a game engine to implement your designs
  • Knowledge of recent titles and trends in action games and the ability to apply insights from them
  • Experience leading or managing other people a plus
