Job Description

Summary

We are launching an end-to-end insurance technology solution that empowers wealth management firms to drive insurance sales and streamline their insurance operations across North America.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial and highly motivated Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer to bring the venture to success.

Please note: This is not an employee opportunity at Diagram Ventures, but in a new company created through our venture studio model. This company will be independent of Diagram Ventures, and the founding team will receive the majority of the equity in the venture.

The Opportunity

Investment dealers in North America represent the most important distribution and servicing channel for life insurance in Canada, yet financial advisors penetrate less than 15% of their wealth clients today. Pain points in advisor sales enablement and complex/expensive internal operations create large headwinds for wealth firms looking to scale their insurance portfolios.

We believe there is an opportunity to build an end-to-end insurance distribution platform that is purpose-built for the wealth management industry, enabling financial advisors to sell more policies and unlocking value for investment dealers.

The solution would focus on enabling embedded life insurance for wealth management channels in Canada, ultimately expanding across new product lines (ie. P&C) and adjacent financial service segments.

This venture has been significantly de-risked, with product-market fit verified and a solid commercial pipeline. The CTO should be able to create a positive culture, attract talent, attract enterprise clients in the financial services space and fundraise from reputable VC funds.

Who we are looking for

We are assembling the dream team of entrepreneurs, technologists, and financial services experts. We are looking for an accomplished technical co-founder to lead the engineering and build of an insurtech company, grow an engineering team and build a high-quality product. If you are up for it, you will:

  • Work closely with the co-founding team to define the product vision and technical strategy.
  • Set up the technology infrastructure, processes, and best practices from the ground up - selecting stack, defining architecture, etc.
  • Execute on an existing partnership opportunity with a design partner to bring a working MVP to market.
  • Lead technical conversations during sales and deployment with wealth management and insurance distribution customers.
  • Build and lead a passionate engineering team.
  • Build and manage the development roadmap, define and track KPIs, progress, and budget.
  • Work with compliance, regulatory and legal teams to ensure that the technical processes adhere to all regulatory / compliance requirements.

Background and experience:

  • Strong experience building and scaling solutions in the Canadian insurance distribution industry, ideally with a background working in life insurance MGAs / BGAs.
  • Familiarity with integrating data from a wide range of insurance sources.
  • Experience with insurance data and security compliance requirements (CITS, CLIEDIS, etc.)
  • A proven track record in technical leadership roles, hiring, managing and growing a team.
  • The capability to drive the technical build on both front-end and back-end with a start-up/agile mindset.
  • Experience building at the intersection of software, hardware, and data analytics, and dealing with enterprise integrations.

Other desirable assets:

  • Experience being founder/co-founder or early hire in a venture backed company
  • Familiarity with agency management systems (ie. Equisoft, iPipeline) and life insurance APIs

What you’ll get:

  • Significant founder equity
  • Competitive compensation
  • Market competitive health insurance and benefits
