Vancouver General Hospital Simulation Centre (VGH SIM) provides a realistic, safe learning environment where learners can study, practice and develop skill sets to advance patient care. VGH SIM supports the learning and growth of all clients to the Centre, including healthcare professionals and staff within Vancouver Acute as well as provincially, nationally and internationally. The Centre consists of 12 rooms, including a lecture theatre, surgical cadaver/animal lab (wet lab), computer and skills lab, a dedicated high fidelity patient simulator room, and eight multipurpose breakout rooms.

As a Clinical Nurse Educator at VCH, you will:

  • Focus on the surgical cadaver/animal lab (wet lab), supporting the development of operations, workflow, safety and staff orientation to the Centre.
  • Play a role in coordinating and supporting all events within the Centre, including the cadaver/animal labs and any VGH Simulation Centre lead insitu simulation within VGH. 
  • Coordinate the development of educational and simulation events, ensuring learner and event outcomes are met.
  • Utilizing critical educational thinking to support the development of the high quality simulation,
  • Book (linking level of fidelity with learning outcomes, selection of appropriate equipment, room(s), staff support and debrief components, set up, session support (IT, AV, Simulation and Medical), tear down, clean up, and maintenance.
  • Coordinate STAT collection and evaluation for program improvement.
  • Coordinate initial safety response of the Centre during events (as required).

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

  • Three (3) 'years' recent, related nursing experience in a clinical specialty, including one year's recent, related simulation teaching experience and group facilitation or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • A strong skill set in muscular-skeletal injury prevention (MSIP) techniques for specimen transfers is essential, and previous operating room or morgue experience is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Competent in the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL)’s current Simulation Standards of Best Practice.
  • Demonstrated experience using various software applications, including google suites, simulators, presentation, word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate and lead.
  • Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking in approach to booking, teamwork, teaching and project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to use program management resources to track project steps and highlight next steps for project completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs and material.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a creative and safe learning environment.
  • Knowledge of ' 'organization's policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient/resident care.
  • Knowledge of research methodology and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and patients/residents and their families, either one-on-one and/or in-groups, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member, leader and facilitator.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in the resolution of conflict issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively and efficiently in emergency situations and guide others in needed safety response.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information (Electronic Health Records) systems.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
