What we are looking for:

The Clinical Extern Program is an extraordinary opportunity available to nursing students enrolled in an accredited nursing program entering into their last years of their nursing program.

Compensation: $21 per hour

Work schedule:

Days and Nights, Monday - Sunday inclusive of statutory holidays, and school holidays.

12 hour shifts. Must work at least 1 shift per week.

Responsibilities

  • Working in one of the clinical areas as an Unregulated Health Care Provider, the program will support the development of clinical skills, critical thinking, and clinical understanding. 
  • The Clinical Extern will gain hands-on experience in performing fundamental patient care duties while working in our clinical programs.  
  • Assigned within the nursing team to an identified Staff Nurse and reporting to the Manager, the Clinical Extern will work within our model of care to gain an understanding and appreciation for the role of the RN and RPN, as well as assist with the functioning of the nursing team at the patient care level.
  • Working in an Interprofessional team environment, the Clinical Extern will adhere to strict privacy and confidentiality and contribute as an enthusiastic and person-focused reliable student fostering a positive patient and family experience.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing and entering into final years of a Practical Nursing (in year 2 and 3) or BScN (in year 2-4) nursing program.
  • An official school transcript will be required if you are invited to be interviewed for this position.
  • Current BCLS.
  • Well-developed communication, critical thinking and organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize and take initiative.
  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to work all shifts as necessary.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record.
