About the Role

The Climate and Environmental Consultant will conduct professional consulting work. This requires the application of a sound understanding of climate change mitigation and adaptation knowledge in the planning and carrying out of projects. The successful candidate should also have the scope to work independently and to assist in the coordination of difficult and complex assignments. As such, the Consultant will play an important role in helping to build BMT’s brand reputation for superior quality technical work with a high customer focus.

In this role, the successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Consultant (Climate and Environment), BMT Canada, as well as other BMT experts to support the delivery of climate and environmental programs and projects.

1. Understand and communicate climate change resilience and adaptation and the broader context of its relevance to government and private entities.
2. Have broader skills and experience in the fields of climate change mitigation, natural hazard management, sustainability and/or other relevant environmental consulting and modeling disciplines.
3. Provide defendable, strategic, and in some cases statutory advice to clients in defence, energy and resource sectors.
4. Use their unique technical background to support the evaluation and execution of climate-related projects.
5. Project manage a range of projects with a high degree of oversight and planning, ensuring projects are executed to time and budget constraints and to client satisfaction.

In this role you will be able to:

1. Perform high quality and professional technical work involving considerable independence in approach, and a high degree of originality, ingenuity, and judgement.
2. Serve as a technical specialist in a climate-related or related environmental management field, applying advanced concepts, principles and methods in an assigned area.
3. Liaise with clients, potential and current, for the purposes of service delivery.
4. Prepare, review and submit proposals / tenders, collaborating with other departments as needed.
5. Share knowledge and act as a collaborator with staff within other areas of expertise.
6. Adhere to, and actively promote, quality, safety and environmental procedures/standards.
7. Adhere to, and actively promote, BMT operating standards.
8. Project manage a range of projects to scope and within time, cost and quality requirements.
9. Demonstrate knowledge of relevant software, systems and processes.

About You

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible team members, who possess the following knowledge, experience, and skills:

Essential:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or other relevant area of study.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience post-graduation in a consulting, government or applied research capacity undertaking projects in Canada and/or.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient technical background in climate change mitigation and adaptation with experience or exposure to the defence, energy, infrastructure, government or other industry sectors.

Desirable:

• Experience in climate change mitigation and other aligned sustainability or environment disciplines.
• Experience in developing hydrodynamic and water quality models.
• Experience working within the Government, Defence, Transport or Resources sector.
• Experience working with complex projects.
• Post-graduate qualifications (Masters, PhD) in relevant area of study.

$95,000-120,000
