Job Description

Carleton Hatcheries (Sunrise Hatcheries) is a division of Sunrise Farms, one of the largest chicken processors in Canada, with facilities in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario. Our team of employees are experienced, dedicated, and exceptional at delivering quality products from farm to table. Responsibilities and Requirements: Must be ready and able to perform manual work including hand trucking of 50lbs. This job is 60% labour and 40% driving. Transport live animals (chicks, poultry, etc.) between farm facilities with a keen sense of urgency while ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the journey. Adhere strictly to established schedules and timelines to maintain the integrity of the livestock supply chain. Must be fluent in English both spoken and written. Have legible handwriting. Have Class 3 Driver’s License. Minimum 1 year experience driving Manual Transmission. No more than 4 penalty points in the current year, including no 24 suspensions in the prior 5 years. Have current and original commercial drivers abstract + accident history report. Good knowledge of Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. Successfully completion of road tests. Working Environment: Physical Demands: The role entails the loading and unloading of live chicks within a barn environment. This task may involve lifting and carrying, as well as maneuvering within confined spaces. Temperature: The work environment typically maintains a temperature of approximately 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius). Employees should be prepared to work in these warm conditions. Noise Level: The barn environment can be noisy due to various farm-related activities. Employees should be comfortable working in a setting with elevated noise levels. Odor: The nature of the work may expose individuals to strong odors associated with agricultural activities. This includes the scent of animals and organic materials commonly found in farm environments. Dust Exposure: Sawdust is often used within the barn, leading to the presence of heavy dust particles in the air. Employees should be aware of and prepared for potential dust exposure. Safety Gear: Personal protective equipment, including appropriate attire and respiratory protection, will be provided to mitigate potential hazards.
