Teck is looking for an experienced Chief Power Engineer to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure & Shared Resources, the Chief Power Engineer is accountable for supporting Trail Operations by monitoring the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all boilers, pressure vessels, refrigeration, and pressure piping work throughout Trail Operations, as well as maintaining the compliance of such equipment.

Responsibilities:

-Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
-Liaise with Technical Safety BC and Trail Operations ensuring boilers, pressure vessels, safety valves and pressure piping meet all applicable regulatory requirements
-Ensure all Trail steam plant installations are designed, operated, maintained and inspected to meet Teck and government regulations by providing specifications for design and selection of equipment, layout, repair & preventative maintenance strategies, and operating procedures
-Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of Teck’s Quality Control Manuals for boilers, pressure vessels, pressure piping & safety valves.
-Provide technical expertise and understanding of the steam distribution system to Trail Operations
-Ensure new equipment is properly identified and engineering drawings are updated; assess existing equipment, determine its capability to meet acceptable standards and recommend suitable replacements
-Coordinate external partners and suppliers for applicable plant shutdowns and projects
-Contribute to cost control by providing input on budgets, monitoring and reporting on expenditures and finding opportunities to continually reduce costs and explaining variances
-Ensure the safe & efficient operation of the various service facilities by developing and implementing strategies in conjunction with operating and maintenance personnel
-Counsel staff on personnel, union, safety and industrial relations issues
-Coordinate the Power Engineer training requirements and Power Engineer certification management for Trail Operations
-Stay on top of the latest developments, maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of the American Standard of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), Boiler Pressure Vessels and Refrigeration Regulations and any other applicable codes and standards

Qualifications:

-Achieved or working towards a First Class Power Engineer’s Certificate
-Minimum completion of four First Class exams completed
-5 -10 years of progressively advanced experience in a related technical environment
-The successful candidate will be committed to achieve their First-Class Power Engineer’s Certificate within 2 years of starting the role
-Advanced analytical, problem solving and decision-making abilities
-Demonstrated leadership skills
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite(R) package

Salary Range: $130,000 - $160,000

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
