With more than 67,000 registrants, BCCNM is the largest health regulator in Western Canada – and the first in the country to regulate both nursing and midwifery.BCCNM exists to ensure unshakeable confidence in nursing and midwifery care. BCCNM honours the trust that the public puts in its hands and aspires to create unwavering confidence in their every interaction with nurses and midwives in British Columbia.Reporting to the Registrar & CEO, the Chief Legal Counsel (CLC) works to ensure the effective, efficient, and fair management of all corporate legal matters within the purview of the College. The CLC leads, manages and delivers high quality legal and strategic advice on complex legal matters, leads the Governance (Board Secretariat) work of the College, oversees the development and maintenance of Bylaws, and supports and advises on contract negotiations, insurance and legal claims involving the College. The CLC is also responsible for enterprise risk management, monitoring legislative changes, and assisting with assessing risk related to privacy. As the College transitions into a new legislative framework and with business transformation underway, the CLC will be a key member of the Executive Team, contributing to a highly collegial and effective senior leadership group.As the ideal candidate, you bring significant experience as a practicing lawyer in the area of administrative law, or in a corporate/general legal counsel role with parallels to the BCCNM. You demonstrate thorough knowledge and practice experience in corporate law, including intellectual property, strategic contract negotiations and corporate communications. While not required, your knowledge of professional regulation or experience in a regulatory setting would be considered an asset.
