Higher Talent is currently seeking passionate and strategic candidates for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for our client, NLOWE (Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs) located in Mount Pearl, NL.

THE ROLE:

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides passionate, executive leadership and management for the organization's strategic plan, project administration, programs and services including playing a vital role in assuring NLOWE's success. The CEO is a strategic and collaborative leader tasked with building lasting relationships with and amongst women entrepreneurs. Supported by a strong and engaged team, the CEO will focus their attention on facilitating opportunities to grow the number of successful women-owned businesses in NL through strategic partnerships, supplier diversity initiatives, and elimination of barriers to women's success. Strengthening operations, the CEO is responsible for attaining the organization's goals and objectives to ensure the future sustainability of and growth of the organization. Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborates with the Board of Directors to develop a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization in the development and execution of long-term and short-term goals and objectives to ensure NLOWE'S growth and sustainability.
  • Team Leadership: Build, lead, and coach a high-performing team, fostering a positive, engaged, collaborative, and open communication work culture. Develop and implement all related HR management policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Advocacy and Stakeholder Relations: Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative of NLOWE, advocating for and building trust with women entrepreneurs in NL including the interests of its members and stakeholders at various levels including government, industry, community and corporate sponsors, and other key stakeholders. The CEO shall work with relevant levels of government to secure and maintain funding opportunities to meet the mission and mandate of the organization.
  • Operations and Program Management: Leads and directs the organization's operational plans, programs, services, project budgets, team members, including the analysis and evaluation of programs and services that promote the organization's mission and provide value to its members.   • Financial Management: Oversee the sound financial management of the organization to ensure its long-term sustainability. The latest published Annual Report and Financial Statements can be found here.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, monitor, and limit risk exposure associated with financial, operational, cybersecurity, and reputational challenges through implementation of strategies to minimize or mitigate their impact on the organization.
  • Board Governance: Work collaboratively with the organization's Board of Directors, providing regular and ongoing communication, providing all information necessary for Board members to make informed decisions. The CEO shall work closely and openly with the Executive, the Board and its committees, ensuring ongoing communication of risks, issues as well as successes.
  • Membership Engagement: Work to grow and retain women-owned business members at all levels of development and growth. OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Education and Training: Post secondary degree/diploma or other relevant education and training.
  • Key Advisor and Executive Leader: Strong business acumen and a history of providing visionary leadership at the executive level in an evolving business and/or not-for profit environment.
  • Strategic and Visionary Thinking: Growth mindset with the ability to translate vision into common language to motivate and inspire others. You anticipate, plan, and exercise sound judgment while making timely and quality decisions.
  • Action Orientation and Influence: Ability to develop and execute realistic operational plans and budgets, identify resources needed with assignment of clear accountability for deliverables. You are enthusiastic while giving confidence and building trust in others.
  • Adaptability and Change Management: Ability to accept change and adapt to priorities, constantly challenging the status quo and looking for new or better ways of doing things while creating a learning environment that leads to efficient and effective processes.
  • Savvy and Diplomatic: You exhibit confidence and professional diplomacy while effectively relating to people at all levels (internally and externally) including member relations, advocacy, public relations, and collaborative government relations. You are experienced in working with Boards and have a high-level understanding of government / project funding, proposal writing, economic development and sector initiatives within Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Interpersonal Competence, Relationship Building, and Member Advocacy: You have exceptional interpersonal and relationship development skills and effectively build trust with internal and external stakeholders by establishing productive and high trust relationships.
  • Planning and Prioritization: You plan and organize work activities, multi-task, prioritize, and juggle complex tasks and multiple projects by using available resources to get more done with less.
  • Decision Maker: You take into consideration a broad range of issues and factors, obtain information, and identify key issues to make informed and objective decisions in a timely manner.
  • Communication and Collaboration: You possess excellent communication skills and deliver clear, effective, and respectful communication and take responsibility for understanding others by establishing productive and collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
