Job Description

Position Description:Reporting to the Chief Building Official or designate, the incumbent will be expected to carry out a variety of tasks relating to various aspects of Building Department functions, such as but not limited to:Assist with front counter, email, and telephone inquiriesAssist Building administration staff with the coordination of building permit applications, development applications and inspection requestsProvide records and file management assistance including but not limited to routine filing of various correspondenceProvide administrative support for other departmental staff as requiredUndertake special projects, as assigned by the Chief Building Official or designateRequirementsQualifications:College or University Student enrolled in a discipline related to Office Administration, Architectural, Construction or Civil Engineering TechnologyValid Ontario Class "G2" Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicleComputer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office, Chrome, and BlueBeam. Preference given to students with advanced knowledge in specific programs such as CAD, GISKnowledge of Occupational Health and Safety ActBasic understanding of municipal functionsExcellent listening skills, coupled with a desire to learn new conceptsBring strong organization skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize, and multi-taskGood time management, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skillsAbility to communicate effectively, professionally, and courteously with the public, elected officials, staff, other levels of government, and community organizations, both verbally and in writingExperience in the general operation of office equipment, i.e. photocopier, fax, etcEmployment is conditional upon attendance at all required training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment termAt time of application must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.
