Bridge Engineer, for COWI in North America

Do you want to join a global team of experts and work under the guidance of professional engineers? Can you assist a highly professional team that provides consulting, project management, and design and construction engineering services on numerous complex bridge design projects? And are you able to work with limited to no supervision and as a part of a team located locally and remotely? Then, here is your chance to convert aspirations into actions.

Turn challenges into sustainable solutions

We are looking for a Bridge Engineer to join our highly professional team of specialists that provides detailed engineering and project management on numerous bridge design projects. Your primary task in our team will be to perform (most) assignments with instructions as to the general results expected and receive technical guidance for unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects. You may supervise or coordinate the work of other engineers and technicians on assigned projects, but supervision of others is not a continuing responsibility.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Perform inspections of bridges and other structures
  • Prepare work plans, schedules, and budgets
  • Prepare design calculations and drawings in accordance with applicable design codes
  • Prepare standard construction documents, such as technical specifications and tender documents
  • Prepare engineering reports and other technical documents
  • Perform other duties as required

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future
The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

On top of that, you will:

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering (Master's degree preferred), with minimum 4 years of related experience in Bridge Design, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Be a registered Professional Engineer in home province or state, or ability to obtain registration in British Columbia within 3 months of employment
  • Possess a Class 5 driver's licence
  • Have the ability and willingness to go on inspection trips that may have a duration of one week or more
  • Preferably have fluency in French
  • Preferably have the following skills: a familiarity with structural design codes like the CHBDC, proficiency in drafting software such as AutoCAD and Bluebeam Revu, and competence in utilizing structural analysis software programs like SoFistik and CSiBridge.
