Organizational Description: Urban Stable provides Equine Facilitated Learning Programs to youth in grades 5-9 through four unique programs. Equine Facilitated Learning is an experiential learning approach that promotes the development of life skills for educational, professional and personal goals through equine activities.Urban Stable is an accredited Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) centre and follows the high standards and safety guidelines provided by them.Our Mission: Urban Stable empowers youth to engage in their education and community and achieve personal success through hands-on learning experiences with horses. Volunteer Opportunity Details Volunteer Opportunity ID: 4389 Description of Duties: As a member of our board you will have opportunities to:- Be part of a dedicated and passionate team of board members, volunteers and staff working together to make a difference for youth in our community- Use your skills to contribute to decision making, governance, strategic planning, marketing, financial management, etc.- Broaden your professional and personal networks- Learn more about equine assisted learning and its benefitsType of Position: VolunteerRequirement: 4-6 hours/month (start date September 2024 or sooner as available). Some meetings held virtually.Duration: Board members are elected for a two-year team (with opportunity to renew for an additional term). We endeavour to stagger board member terms to ensure consistency and continuity on the board.Experience: Previous board experience desired but not necessary. No horse experience needed.Location of Opportunity: Winnipeg, ManitobaNote: Board members are subject to a criminal record check and child abuse registry check Skills Required: We are currently seeking two - three people to join our Board of Directors with experience in ONE or more of the following areas:- Human Resources and Policies- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion- Accounting: CA/CPA designation- Fundraising: individual donations, major gifts, grant writing- Event planning and sponsorship- Website design and management- IT Governance- Education and / or social work Skills Gained/Related Careers: Urban Stable currently provides Equine Facilitated Learning Programs to youth in grades 5-12 through five unique programs (School Program, Alumni Program, Summer Program, Leaders in Training Program, and Accessible Unmounted Programs). We currently partner with 20 schools across four School Divisions and several community organizations.
