Job Description

Blush Laneis looking for a Store Managerto join our growing team at the Whyte Ave location (8135-102 Street NW, Edmonton).

The Store Manager, reporting to the Head of Retail, is responsible and accountable for the day-to-day operation and management of the assigned store including the implementation and adherence to Blush Lane programs, policies, and procedures. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers, and suppliers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Planning and Fiscal Management:

  • Work with the leadership team to develop store goals. Develop strategies and prioritize work with department managers to meet these goals.
  • Suggest changes to in-store procedures to increase sales, reduce costs, increase efficiency, and improve customer satisfaction or employee morale.
  • Establish and maintain good relations with suppliers, sales representatives, and other retailers.
  • Increase knowledge of the industry by reading, attending industry seminars, conferences, and courses.

Store Operations:

  • Track, analyze, improve store performance. Forecast sales goals and take steps to meet goals and targets set out by Blush Lane Organic Market.
  • Conduct weekly department manager meetings. Review sales goals, department performance, and sales opportunities.
  • Forecast, schedule, and monitor staffing levels to support customer service expectations, productivity, and labour cost budgets. Schedule duty managers ensuring proper supervisory coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements and company policies and procedures, including applicable employment standards legislation.

Customer Service:

  • Serve as a role model in providing exceptional customer service.
  • Interact with customers, be engaged andvisible to customers and staff on the store floor frequently during the day.

Leadership and Human Resources:

  • Direct and coach a team of department managers and supervisors; this includes responsibility for hiring & terminations, performance management, succession planning, and professional development.
  • Create succession plans for leadership positions in the store. This includes creating developmental plans for employees identified as potential leaders and ensuring they are prepared for a promotion.
  • Constantly monitor and take action to ensure a healthy, respectful, safe, and pleasant workplace for all employees.
  • Provide opportunities for employees to learn to work together as a team.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire department managers. Assist department managers with recruitment as required.
  • Additional duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong working knowledge of the retail grocery industry.
  • A team builder and player with a proven record for successfully developing, mentoring, and motivating staff.
  • Ability to work in a high-performance environment with an open and consistent approach to working with others.
  • Values building relationships and is known for integrity and compassion in dealing with challenging people and issues.
  • An active listener and a strong communicator who is confident and articulate, and able to communicate with all types of people at all levels in the organization.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict management skills; able to bring alignment and focus throughout the store at all levels of employees.
  • Solid working knowledge of budgeting and forecasting. Can analyze, project, and report on inventory and operating costs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Typically requires completion of a post-secondary program with an emphasis in business, plus 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible managerial experience in retail, preferably in the perishable food industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successful completion of a Public Health Food Handler certification plus Standard First Aid CPR-C & AED certification, or the commitment to complete within 6 months.
  • Good knowledge of retail industry, food products and superior standards of quality.
  • Skilled at working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining priorities and a high level of performance.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent team building and team participation skills.
  • Fluency in English and French shall be considered an asset.
  • Position will require a criminal background check to be completed.
  • Experience in working with various computer software programs; e.g., Microsoft Office.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
  • Overtime is a requirement of the position.
  • Special projects and other duties may be assigned as required.
  • Some travel (including overnight) will be required to assist other store locations or to attend training.
