Job Description

Toromont Material Handling is looking for a Battery Maintenance Technician to join our team! A Battery Maintenance Technician performs scheduled maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs on industrial batteries and chargers in a field environment.

In a typical day, YOU will:

  • Demonstrate safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviors at all times, in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policies, Programs and initiatives
  • Remove and replace battery cells when needed
  • Fill cells with acid and determine specific gravity
  • Perform services and repairs on various types of industrial batteries and chargers
  • Perform watering, cleaning and other preventative maintenance tasks required on industrial batteries and chargers
  • Respond to service calls for battery and charger diagnosis and repair
  • Utilize electrical and mechanical testing and measuring equipment
  • Identify & recommend additional repairs/services required on customer equipment
  • Work with fellow technicians to coordinate necessary repairs
  • Record battery values and update the work flow documents in use

Must-haves for this role:

  • College Diploma in Electrical/mechanical/electronic or related field
  • Service experience relating to batteries and chargers is an asset
  • Good mechanical and electrical aptitudes, knowledge of electrical/electronic systems
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
  • Customer focused with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to complete services within established time guidelines in a busy, fast-paced environment where priorities are constantly changing
  • Self-directed team player with strong initiative, business acumen and integrity
  • Focused, energetic and organized with superior attention to detail and a sense of urgency
  • Adaptable to on-call working schedules when required
  • Able and willing to operate various material handling equipment
  • A valid Driver’s License (class 5) and available to commute in various locations in Toromont Cat Dealer territory
