Civil Crown Counsel 3: $7063.55 to $7832.15 bi-weekly ($189,889.25 - $204,419.37 /year)

The Central Services Team is seeking an experienced Lawyer to join our team. 

In this role, your focus will be on tax law, and you will play an integral part in advising the Alberta government on complex tax matters, providing legal advice on policy changes, and staying apprised of the ever-evolving tax landscape.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

Provide legal and tax advice to Treasury Board and Finance and other government departments to support the development of Alberta tax policy in various areas, including personal income tax, corporate income tax, commodity tax, and various tax credit programs.

Analyze complex tax legislation and provide strategic and practical legal advice on the tax aspects of Alberta programs and transactions. 

Stay current on the latest tax developments and emerging trends.

Provide general corporate counsel legal and strategic advice to the Alberta Government as required.

Conduct legal research and prepare including legal opinions and briefs.

Collaborate effectively with colleagues on the team and across the various legal teams within Alberta Justice, as well as clients and outside legal counsel

A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (JD). For Law degrees obtained outside Canada, proof of accreditation from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) is required. You must be an active member or must have immediate eligibility for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta. 


As the ideal candidate you possess: 

Excellent analytical skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Experience conducting legal research and preparing legal opinions.

Experience drafting and negotiating contracts.


Assets for this role include:

Experience or in-depth knowledge of Canadian tax laws

Experience with Statutory interpretation 

Experience with corporate commercial transactions

Hours of work: Monday – Friday, 8:15 am – 4:30 pm (36.25 /week)

Location: This opportunity is located in Edmonton.
