We are seeking an AVP, Claims Specialist in our Toronto, Ontario office. This role will support all lines of business, but with an emphasis on Financial Lines. This position will be responsible for providing oversight to third party administrators managing our portfolios across the domestic regions, as well as collaborating with the North America Claim COO to ensure operational compliance for the Canadian Branch. The successful candidate will be able to provide portfolio level insight and analysis in addition to insights on complex high profile/high exposure claims and will report into our North American Claim Chief Operating Officer. Responsibilities: Provide portfolio level oversight of all claims administered by the selected Third-Party Administrator Evaluate exposures and provide authority for claims administered by the TPA across all lines of business Complete coverage, liability, and damages analyses for complex management liability claims involving publicly and privately held insureds Identify trends and exposures that may affect the portfolio Support underwriting with legal review and policy drafting Support underwriting and marketing with client and broker servicing Ensure timely and accurate reporting of exposure to underwriting and management. Ensure appropriate narrative and arithmetic reports are timely prepared and disseminated Work closely with your colleagues worldwide on various projects as directed by the management and other members of the Claim Leadership Team. Collaborate with various colleagues to ensure operational compliance for the Canadian branch Attend various industry conferences, possibly as a speaker/presenter, publishing on current claim trends and issues and assisting other offices on complex claims. Communicate with and support underwriting and other functional groups within the organization Other duties as required by management Some travel as required Minimum Qualifications: Law degree required Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience required in claims handling including litigation management with a history of increasing responsibility Experience in handling Financial Lines claims; Property & Casualty experience a plus Direct handling of complex high profile/high exposure management liability and related claims with an emphasis on evaluating, handling, negotiating and settling complex matters with exposures in excess of $10M. Meaningful legal review and policy drafting experience Strong knowledge of Canadian insurance regulations and laws Strong contract negotiation skills Demonstrated ability to establish close working relationship with other departments including underwriting & actuarial Strong negotiating, analytical, written and organizational skills with relevant mediation experience Experience managing a third-party administrator preferred Excellent marketing and communication skills Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and various in-house claims systems –Guidewire and ImageRight is a plus) Strong preference for candidate who has pursued or is in the process of pursuing an insurance related designation e.g. RPLU or CPCU This job description outlines the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this position.
