Job Description

The Associate EMRA Leader – Asset Effectiveness leads reliability focused improvements in the maintenance department, including routine management and continuous improvement of processes to optimize team performance. Possessing education and experience in either engineering or trades, this position will use strong communication to lead a diverse group of trades workers. They will guide and support project work and make decisions within a dynamic and demanding environment. This leadership position is accountable for the Maintenance and Reliability Department, which is comprised of the following teams: Electrical Trades, Mechanical Trades, Stores, Reliability and Planning and Scheduling. ResponsibilitiesPromote EHS policies, ensure compliance in day-to-day activities.Review procedures and practices to ensure design and maintenance program work adheres to all policies and has safety as a priority and focus.Lead investigations, as appropriate, to understand root causes. Support follow-through of corrective actionsDirect root cause analysis reviews to reduce equipment risk and prevent re-occurrence of repeating issues.Engage team to drive a continuous improvement mentality, by championing World Class Manufacturing initiativesContinuously evaluate the existing processes, equipment performance to find opportunities for improvement.Develop and initiate annual department plans by drafting and submitting budget proposals and providing insightful recommendations for short and long-term priorities consistent with the business plan.Track critical metrics for the department and lead improvement projects to bridge the gap between actual and target results.Develops plan to efficiently lead preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and general work orders and corporate reliability initiatives for the Kingston facility.Liaise with team members to prioritize activities required to optimize equipment utilization and efficiency.Support and advocate for storeroom management and develop processes including spare parts' review, obsolescence replacement, and improvements to inventory management.Develop the capabilities of all maintenance employees through effective training and provide for opportunities to increase potential.Work with local union representatives in conflict resolution and routine improvements.Bridge planning/scheduling efforts with critical resources such as staffing and materials required.Coordinate and lead internal and external resources including Novelis employees, contractors, and vendors.How will the employee work to achieve success?Being OpenConsistently researching and engaging with others in order to find ways to improve reliability and maintenance functions.Building TrustLeading and guiding a team of highly skilled tradespeople through open communication and facilitation.Saying AnythingAdvocating, planning improvements and challenging existing ways of doing things in the interest of optimization.Being AuthenticLeading by example as an open, excellence driven leader.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent education and training in a registered tradeMinimum 7 years of experience in maintenance and reliability, specifically in a heavy industrial setting preferredPrevious leadership experience in a unionized environment preferredDemonstrated knowledge in preventive and predictive techniquesDemonstrated experience working with a multidisciplinary team of trades workers.Strong communication skills to influence, coach and develop a diverse work groupStrong computer skills to create, analyze, and interpret data from reports.Proven project management skillsCertified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification considered an asset.Knowledgeable in MS Office, Kronos, SAP and databases an assetDemonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes and problem-solving with an emphasis on communication and team workThe ability to make decisions in a timely manner in a constantly changing environmentNovelis recognizes its dedicated and diverse workforce as a key competitive advantage.
