Our comprehensive undergraduate university offers 59 programs to more than 18,000 full- and part-time students in business, communications, community and human services, design, fine and performing arts, health, humanities, natural science, nursing, public safety, and social science. Through a wide array of experiential learning opportunities, and strategic relationships in the community, we partner with others to produce graduates of stature. Along with a robust grounding in their chosen disciplines, MacEwan students are given durable life skills that prepare them to take on the world.

The Department of Humanities in the Faculty of Arts and Science at MacEwan University invites applications for a 10-month limited term appointment in Spanish at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing August 1, 2024, subject to final budgetary approval.

Although the area of expertise is flexible, you will have experience teaching Spanish language acquisition courses as well as Hispanic literatures and cultures. Experience teaching language acquisition and bridge courses (e.g., conversation and composition courses) would be an asset. Native or near native fluency in Spanish is required.

The Department of Humanities is a multidisciplinary department housing programs in Classics, French, History, Philosophy, and Spanish. The Department values collaboration and integration, as evidenced by our great works-based Humanities courses and our emerging interest in digital humanities. Comfort in a multidisciplinary humanist environment and experience making connections between humanist disciplines are assets.

You will hold at least an M.A., or preferably a Ph.D. or ABD, in a relevant area of expertise and will demonstrate a primary commitment to undergraduate teaching. Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and teaching philosophy with your application. Teaching dossiers, samples of research, and letters of recommendation may be requested as part of your application later in the recruitment process. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Questions about this opportunity may be addressed to Dr. Michael Carroll, Chair of the Humanities Department, at CarrollM13@macewan.ca .
