The Department of Music in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2024. This internal competition is conducted under Article 33.5.7.10 of the Collective Agreement, where recruitment to the “Teaching and Service” stream is restricted to Members currently holding Sessional Extended appointments in the Department of Music.

MacEwan University’s Bachelor of Music focuses on the performance, interpretation, creation, production and culture of jazz and contemporary popular music and offers seven routes of study: Performance major; Composition major; Recording and Production major; General, without minor; General, Music Technology and Production minor; General, Music Career Management minor; General, Music Education minor; General, Song Writing minor.

The Department of Music is situated within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications (FFAC) of MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta. In 2017, the Department moved to a new state-of-the-art facility at MacEwan University’s main campus in close proximity to the downtown arts district. MacEwan Music has been part of the city’s vibrant arts community since the early 1970s, and its Bachelor of Music degree builds on its reputation as one of the finest post-secondary music programs in Canada.

The successful candidate must have a national profile as a keyboard instrumentalist with a demonstrable record of performances, live and recorded, and will have proven experience and mastery in a broad range of styles. Primary responsibilities will include classroom teaching in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise, piano masterclasses, ensemble directing, and private lesson instruction. Piano duties include student advising, recruiting, overseeing courses, curricular development and planning, adjudicating auditions and juried recitals, and organizing concerts and other events associated with the piano area. Secondary teaching areas will be required based on the successful candidate’s teaching expertise, professional experience, and departmental needs.
