COMPETITION # 2024CF-AD01 NATIONAL OCCUPATION CODE 10010 POSITION TYPE PERMANENT, FULL-TIME POSITION SUMMARY Working as part of the finance team, the Assistance Director of Finance assists the Director of Finance with day to day accounting tasks, the development, preparation, and submission of financial reports for the organization and staff supervision. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with day to day accounting tasks such as payroll, A/R, A/P, and banking.
  • Assists with the planning and development of comprehensive capital and operating budgets.
  • Assist in preparing financial statements.
  • Assist in overseeing the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, payroll and claims, account maintenance and data entry, ensuring compliance.
  • Adhere to federal and provincial regulations and GAAP – Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Assist in the implementation of new fiscal policies, and training of staff as required
  • Assist in the supervision, leadership and coordination to the finance department staff.
  • Respond to inquiries as needed.
  • Provide reports to the Director of Finance and/or Executive Director as required and assigned.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual audit process.
  • Be aware of, administer, and comply with CAHRD HR policies and Collective Agreement provisions.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of all financial and employee files.
  • Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS Education
  • Bachelor's degree or CPA Program or an equivalent combination of Post-Secondary Education specializing in Accounting preferred.
  • 2 year Business Degree with accounting major with progressive experience will be considered.
  • 5 years’ experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience financial operations in a finance/accounting position.
  • Records maintenance and database management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, automated financial systems and Internet.
  • Knowledge of business practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial financial regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of non-profit sector financial, accounting, and budgeting principles and procedures.
  • Ability to execute and integrate complex financial analyses and prepare comprehensive capital/operating budget summaries and projections.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Proven ability to supervise staff.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Indigenous community of Winnipeg.
