Working in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Care - Day, the Assistant Director of Care - Evening (ADOC-E) is accountable to the Director of Care for the day-to-day management of the nursing department and resident care services. Through effective management of all resources in the nursing envelope and development of a strong nursing team, the ADOC-E will ensure the delivery of optimal care and service, based on legislative requirements and MHC’s standards.

The ADOC-E is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the Salvation Army Meighen Health Centre’s core values, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence while responsible for planning, implementation and evaluation of programs and services provided to the residents.

BScN, current Certificate of Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario or willingness to upgrade RPN designation to RN designation within a defined timeframe, and current CPR designation3 years in a senior nursing leadership role including program planning, education, critical analysis, union, accreditation, and budgeting experience1 year experience as an RN in gerontological nursing; over 5 years progressive Nursing experienceSolid skills and experience in MS Office, resident records, staffing programs, and RAI MDSEXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:Current knowledge of issues and trends including best practices in nursing and best practices in the enhancement of quality of work lifeKnowledge of current quality improvement and risk management concepts and approaches with special emphasis on infection control, wound management and the prevention of resident falls and medication errors and least restraint policiesSKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:Deal tactfully and courteously with residents, resident’s families, visitors and staff in a positive mannerDemonstrate a high level of integrity, sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentialityDemonstrated skill in leadership, including experience with setting and achieving strategy, goals, and objectives; budget control, problem solving, conflict resolution and effective human and fiscal resource managementExcellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to mentor and develop staffFacilitate multidisciplinary communication in complex care issues to foster positive resident outcomesEstablish and sustain care in a manner that is resident centred and fosters evidence based best practiceDemonstrated commitment to a resident-centered leadership styleDemonstrated commitment to treating others with respect and dignityDemonstrated commitment to continuing professional developmentFocus on a collaborative team approach with all managers and staff and create a working climate that is positive and mutually supportiveAbility to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.Please note: PDF format preferred.
