Job Description

The Sheldon seeks an organized, detail-oriented Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications with a wide-ranging expertise in traditional and digital communications, and demonstrated success in social media management, to engage audiences throughout the St. Louis community and beyond. The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications will work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to plan and implement all institutional and programmatic marketing strategies for concerts, galleries, rental events, educational programs and fundraising initiatives at The Sheldon, and will manage the guest services discipline within the department.Essential Functions– Develop annual marketing plans including email, social, traditional and display advertising.– Plan and execute all digital marketing campaigns, including e-mail, social media and display advertising schedules. Identify trends and insights, and optimize spend and performance based on those insights, to grow The Sheldon’s family of ticket buyers, gallery-goers, donors and rental clients.– Manage website content, assuring that all events and messaging are accurate and accessible for visitors seeking a wide range of information.– Produce promotional materials including monthly event calendars, e-blasts, flyers and advertisements (both digital and print), ensuring all pieces adhere to Sheldon brand guidelines.– Evaluate emerging technologies and remain up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing and measurement. Provide perspective and advice for adoption of new technologies where appropriate.– Develop and execute press communications schedule and materials, including writing and distributing press releases and media alerts.– Edit, proofread and review marketing and communications pieces for internal departments to ensure clarity, brand consistency and adherence to AP Style.– Manage 21,000-plus name e-mail marketing list and 10,000+ name direct marketing mailing list; coordinate bulk mailing activities.– Manage guest relations services, which includes customer relations and liaison activities related to our ticketing partner. With other members of the department, regularly answer patron phone calls and e-mails with the utmost professionalism, kindness and discretion.– Act as part of rotating box office staff during evening events, working in guest services for select concerts, and assisting customers, volunteers and staff at these events.Preferred Qualifications/Skills– The ideal candidate is highly creative and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, while managing multiple projects at the same time. Strong customer service skills are a must, along with a passion and enthusiasm for music and art, and a belief in the importance of arts and culture in our community.– Proven success with digital and social media marketing campaigns.– Ability to collect and analyze digital and social activity and recommend/implement strategies for greater success.– Experience with web content management systems such as WordPress and e-mail marketing systems.– Highly proficient in Microsoft Office; proficiency in Canva, Adobe Design Suite and photo/video editing software a plus.– Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing and proofreading abilities. Knowledge of AP style preferred.– Solid knowledge of website analytics tools.– Able to work within deadlines and within budgets. Experience planning and managing budgets a plus.– Excellent customer service skills, and ability to handle difficult issues with discretion, compassion and humor. Must be comfortable working with full spectrum of personalities from a wide range of backgrounds.– Must be a self-starter, capable of working independently without constant direction.ExperienceFive-seven years’ experience in marketing and/or digital communications preferably in a non-profit setting.Terms of Employment:– Full-time, 35-hour work week plus frequent nights and weekends.
