Job Description
The application designer / engineer role bridges between Sales Support, Operations, Engineering and Product Development. The application designer / engineer will develop the optimal solution for a given customer requirement considering design guidelines, while providing risk mitigation strategies to help drive successful project execution. The role has a full end to end accountability of a project’s performance from a solution’s technical assessment to manufacturing to final performance testing of our products. The application designer / engineer will also contribute to key continuous improvement projects that will drive efficiencies and performance improvements across the group.
Responsibilities
- Perform risk assessments of customer applications to ensure customer applications can be delivered on time and meet both Customer and Husky performance requirements.
- Preparing mitigation plans to ensure performance and quality commitments made to our customers are achieved (examples, include cycle times, dimensions, Cmks, etc.)
- Concepting new mold layouts and stack modules for specialty preforms.
- Contribute or lead continuous improvement projects as required.
- Working with cross generational Husky teams and tools
- Support service teams in trouble shooting injection molding processing issues.
- Drive root cause analyses in the test room in order to close the loop in front end risk assessments predictions and actual performance in the lab.
- Providing engineering guidance to production teams when application cannot be designed within Husky design boundaries.
- Being part of a global cross functional team during release of new Husky products and existing product executions.
- Own of the application performance and risk assessment
- Working closely with sales, solutioning, production/development engineering, manufacturing and test room to ensure current product offering meets customer requirements or develop customized solutions to meet customer expectations.
- Leading and taking part in closed loop projects resulting in updated engineering guidelines.
- Utilize Agile project management and stage gate approach to drive improvement projects.
Qualifications
- Engineering degree/diploma or equivalent experience
- 5 years’ experience in an engineering environment (preferred industries include injection molding, automotive or industrials)
- Knowledge in CAD modeling, drafting and parametric design (Unigraphics is an asset)
- In-depth knowledge of design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and testing processes for developing solutions.
- Knowledge in stage-gate process, DVP&R, DFMEA and PFMEA are all assets.
- Knowledge in manufacturing approaches, particularly in machining would be an asset.
- Programing skills in Excel, VB, Python, R, etc. are all assets.
- Experience in building virtual models in tools, such as MATLAB is an asset
- Ability to apply GD&T standards to new components on specification drawings with design intent in mind
- Experience in injection molding and plastics processing is an asset.
- Disciplined and systematic in problem solving is an asset, understands and applied root cause analysis and approaches to situations.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365
- Excellent organizational, self-starter, and driven to succeed.
- Ability and comfortable in managing projects
- Ability to learn new concepts / approaches / technologies as projects require.
