Analytical Chemist – Job Description Company Description: Sigma Analytical Services Inc., based in Toronto, stands as Canada's pioneering GMP-certified laboratory specializing in analytical and microbiological testing for cannabis and its derivatives. Sigma is dedicated to elevating the understanding of cannabis science and fostering a global scientific network while consistently delivering precise testing services in the legal cannabis industry. Position Summary: Sigma Analytical Services Inc. is currently seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Analytical Chemist to enhance our QC Laboratory team. The ideal candidate will engage in hands-on technical tasks, primarily focusing on Potency Testing of cannabis products using HPLC-UV instrumentation. This role demands efficient management of multiple projects, adherence to strict timelines, and a commitment to accuracy and efficiency in QC testing. The candidate should excel in both individual and team settings, possess strong analytical and organizational skills, and demonstrate a proactive approach to their work. Key Responsibilities: Conduct sample preparation using wet chemistry techniques and HPLC-UV instrument analysis, adhering to our in-house SOPs. Perform data analysis, documentation, and timely reporting of results. Undertake additional testing such as moisture content, water activity, density, viscosity, and pH testing. Assist in R&D initiatives, including method development and validation. Demonstrate initiative and self-direction in enhancing QC processes and efficiency, both scientifically and administratively. Candidate Expectations: Efficiently handle and prioritize multiple projects. Collect, prepare, test, process, and report samples following SOPs, ensuring accurate data recording and timely updates to the supervisor. Execute all required tests, extractions, and studies with precision Accurately record all experimental data as directed Adhere to all SOPs and maintain a strong focus on safety. Maintain a vigilant commitment to safety Properly dispose of samples in compliance with environmental and cannabis regulations. Utilize and maintain laboratory equipment, conducting necessary maintenance and inventory tasks. Perform lab and equipment maintenance activities and inventory as required. Implement and uphold QA/QC programs. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field. At least 1 year of QC experience in the pharmaceutical, cannabis, or food industry. Proficiency in HPLC-UV and different sample preparation techniques; experience with other chromatography instruments is an advantage. Experience with Karl Fischer titrator, water activity, moisture content apparatus, and pH meter. Familiarity with PerkinElmer and Waters instrumentation, troubleshooting practices, and chromatographic tools (Empower and/or TotalChrom) is beneficial. Strong wet chemistry skills. Excellent communication and reporting skills, and a commitment to SOP and safety protocol compliance. Goal-oriented, self-motivated, responsive, ambitious, organized, and adaptable. Availability for extended work hours as needed.   Job Type: Full-time Location: Greater Toronto Area, ON Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work for any employer in Canada. Salary Range: $52,000 - $62,000 Employment Equity and Accommodation  Sigma is committed to fostering a diverse, safe, and inclusive workplace.
