Job Description

AltaGas - Senior Portfolio Delivery Manager

Reporting to the Director, Portfolio Delivery & Execution, you will be a key leader in our efforts to mature our Plan, Build, Run delivery model into a highly effective product-oriented operating model. The Senior Portfolio Delivery Manager will have experience building and managing mature Program Management Office functions; this includes developing people, process, and technology components necessary to ensure project level delivery capabilities are consistent, repeatable and effective across their respective domain(s).

As a key leader on our PMO team, you will help us transform our business by advancing a team culture that promotes accountability in our work, empowers team members to realize their full potential, and seeks to shorten the path to value-realization in everything we do!

You will:

  • You'll help our ALA Corporate and Midstream businesses transform by leveraging technology to accelerate value delivery across the firm. As a transformational leader, you'll bring the energy necessary to build culture, develop talent and generate momentum necessary to sustain us on this journey.
  • You'll build & mature our Portfolio Delivery capability that can scale to deliver multiple projects effectively; this includes helping to identify both the organizational structure and skills necessary to support at-scale delivery, as well as maturing the processes and training required to ensure consistent, repeatable outcomes
  • You'll partner closely with the "Strategy & Planning" team, ensuring that as strategic opportunities in your area of domain expertise begin to take shape into actionable initiatives, your team is there to support the late stage planning necessary to ensure ownership once handed off for "build"
  • You'll carefully manage project team structure and governance for each initiative, ensuring we have adequate and accountable resources to deliver successful outcomes
  • You'll ensure proper oversight for scope, schedule and resources on each project or program in your portfolio
  • You'll be a relentless driver of financial governance and discipline at both the project and portfolio level, ensuring that we've adequately budgeted and planned for effective delivery before initiation, and that we're effectively tracking and forecasting costs throughout. This includes clearly understanding rules-of-the-road for allocation of CapEx vs. OpEx.
  • You'll partner closely with the Business Solutions (our Run teams), ensuring that there is adequate participation from each during project planning and execution phases, enabling a smooth hand-off for effective on-going operations
  • You'll be comfortable leading resources across complex, multi-vendor/mixed resource environments (employee, contractor, service-provider) and driving accountability necessary to achieve results
  • You will be comfortable proactively managing risks and establishing appropriate escalations for all constituents of the portfolio
  • You'll ensure all projects and resources assigned to your portfolio operates in compliance with company policies, standards and best practices
  • You'll establish and maintain project retrospective reviews, ensuring a culture of continuous learning and improvement exists at the firm
  • You'll help to drive innovation, by relentlessly pursuing research and assessment of new approaches, technologies and solutions, and evaluating them for potential use across ALA Corporate and Midstream
  • You'll possess a passion for lifelong learning and develop an environment for professional growth across the team.

You have:

  • Desire, passion, and energy to help build and drive a transformation mindset across the organization
  • Twelve to fifteen years' experience leading Digital teams at scale, with specific experience leading a Portfolio Management function or large, complex project management
  • Specific experience leading deployment of ERP, work management, field operations, and safety related solutions
  • Extensive experience managing third-party service providers in the delivery of Application managed services
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring project managers and ability to contribute to the overall maturity and consistency of the PMO organization by serving as a SME on leadership, program and project management, stakeholder engagement, scope definition, risk identification/mitigation and financial processes.
  • Necessary business and/or technical domain expertise with considerable multi-disciplinary project management experience
  • Prior experience working with gas or electric utilities preferred; will consider related experience in other industrial domains
  • Must be able to effectively interact with and communicate with business partners at every level throughout the organization
  • Must be able to drive accountability across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Program or portfolio management certifications a plus
  • Willingness to travel (~<20%)
