Job Description

  • Our client is moving towards an Agile Framework for projects and is rolling out the framework to the Corporation, transitioning teams into the Agile Methodology.
  • Looking for someone to come in and assist in developing the processes for Scrum Meetings and sprints, help define and implement the guidelines. Coach other team members in the Agile Framework.
  • This role will be acting as ScrumMaster to two cross-functional teams of 6-8 members per team.
  • Project scopes: HR and Finance System Project support application projects, testing and customization. One defined team for HR and one defined team for Finance systems.
  • Working in the MS Product: Azure Software.

Must haves:

  • 5+ years experience in a ScrumMaster role where they have led or coached teams in Agile methodology
  • Strong leadership skills and coaching abilities
  • Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Business, Analyst, or related discipline

Assets:

  • Experience working on Finance, HR, or Insurance projects an asset
  • Agile Project Management Certification (PMI ACP) is an asset.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

The Scrum Master is a Scrum Team member who has the primary responsibility to provide servant leadership and coaching to the self-organizing, self-managing Agile teams. This includes ensuring that Scrum principles are understood by the teams and the Scrum Team adheres to Scrum principles, practices and rules.

The Scrum Master works closely with team members, Product Owners, and Business Owners to understand the work required of the team and ensure the team is focused on delivering solutions in an efficient and timely manner. Works with experienced software developers, technology experts, architects, Business Owners and the Product Owner to enable rapid development and response to reported product defects.

Following Agile values and principles, the Scrum Master is responsible for leading cross-functional teams and following the Scrum framework. The Scrum Master’s main focus is to be a servant leader, coach, motivate, and remove barriers for the team. The Scrum Master is accountable for ensuring their Scrum teams’ progress, obstacles and successes are widely communicated throughout the life of each sprint. In addition, acts as the front-line contact with the Product Manager and functional managers on product related issues, responding to concerns and providing formal status reports.

· Organizes and facilitates all aspects of the Scrum framework, including sprint planning sessions, daily scrums, sprint reviews and retrospectives.

· Facilitates defining acceptance criteria, acceptance tests, and approval of user stories.

· Provides coaching to the Agile teams on Agile principles, methods, and ensures consistency of Scrum practices for assigned team(s).

· Coordinates with other teams for dependencies.

· Connects the core Agile teams with shared services and management as necessary for governance and corporate process adherence.

· Identifies and helps to remove impediments to enable success of the Sprint team.

· Proactively manages risks and issues providing appropriate issues escalation to the necessary levels.

· Distributes appropriate and timely written communication with respective management and customers throughout the life of the Sprint(s), including metric based KPI reporting.

· Supports and partners with Product Owners.

· Assists Product Owner(s) with planning, change management and product backlog maintenance/refinement.

· Assists team(s) with prioritizing and managing of sprint backlog to ensure timely and accurate product delivery.

· As a servant leader, fosters a collaborative culture within the team(s).

· Builds high performing Agile sprint teams, focusing on continuous improvement, continuous integration, continuous development and delivering value to the customer.

· Supports and reinforces processes and team agreements.

· Builds strong relationships with stakeholders, application users, and product managers.

· Coaches and mentors existing scrum masters in the corporation

· Participates and assists in leading the Scrum Master Community of Practice

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and Experience:

· Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Business Analysis or a related discipline

· Minimum 5 years of experience as a Scrum Master.

· Agile Project Management Certification (PMI ACP) is an asset.

· Certified Advanced Scum Master (A-CSM) is an asset.

  • Technical Knowledge & Skills:

· Strong communication skills (verbal, written and group presentation skills) with ability to communicate issues and solutions in a clear, concise and understandable manner for both technical and non-technical audiences.

· Ability to conduct and facilitate meetings.

· Working knowledge of conflict management techniques with good conflict resolutions skills.

· Ability to listen, analyse, influence, negotiate and use judgment to solve complex issues in order to accomplish project goals.

· Ability to work independently as well as a team player.

· Ability to work directly with technical and product teams.

· Strong relationship building, customer focused, and collaboration skills.

· Proven experience using Microsoft Suite (MS Project, Excel and PowerPoint).

· Advanced knowledge of Scrum framework and Agile values and principles.

· Knowledge of modern Agile development techniques such as DevOps, test driven development, and test automation.

· Knowledge of Scrum techniques and artefacts (such as definition of done, user stories, automated testing, and backlog refinement).

· Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

· Strong work ethic to help team meet commitments.

· Experience with servant leadership and coaching team members.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities as well as flexibility to adapt to change with new systems and methods while working in a team environment.

· Knowledge of insurance industry an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES COULD INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• Provides day to day operational support for incidents and problems by troubleshooting incidents, identifying and resolving problems, designing and implementing configuration changes and monitoring performance.

• Actively participates in integrated DevOps Team implementing Agile methodologies with strong change management focus.

• Interest in and ability to learn new technologies and techniques. Puts learning into action by modernizing applications through re-platforming, re-architecting, re-engineering, and automation.

• Proactive communication and quick response to production issues and project work. Strong customer focus.

• Develops domain knowledge by understand business processes.

• Liaisons and identifies opportunities for customers; translates business needs into technical specifications for development; works with the delivery team to develop and deliver new solutions and improvements.

• Demonstrates leadership, coaches and mentors peers. Provides technical guidance and expertise.

• Depending on the area of support, works directly with third party vendors to define technical requirements and implement solutions to interface with various external systems.

• Coordinate and plan monthly release packages, participate on projects and change initiatives as required.

• Delivers projects and enhancements that connect key systems into our infrastructure.

• Formulate and define project scope Develop, analyze, and maintain current and future business processes.

• Maintain the functional and non-functional requirements gathering, analysis, verification, and acceptance process.

• Takes input from supervisor, project manager, and team members and appropriately and accurately applies comments/feedback.

• Consistently delivers high-quality services to the business, stakeholders, and vendors.

• Understands technical system interfaces.

• Identifies critical issues with ease.

• Exhibits confidence and an extensive knowledge of emerging industry practices when solving business problems.

7+ years of relevant experience in this role – Preferably with a recognized professional certification.
